As it stands now the only way to obtain experience (without mods, as far as I am aware) is to go slay monsters. This is fine for those who enjoy slaying monsters, or those who enjoy slaying monsters and building, but for those who want to just build and enchant their excavating tools to help them build, it's kind of painful.
I was thinking maybe some option that allows players to gather (or have the chance to gather) experience for doing mundane tasks like digging, planting, building, etc; so that those who just want to build without having to go hunt down mobs can do so.
In the mean time, is there a mod that addresses this? If so, can someone direct me to it?
this would totally turn the game even more into an adventure genre, but maybe you could do a very primative form of "quests" with villages. i think it should be that slaying zombies that are after villagers drop more exp, but maybe it could be more advanced where as when you right click a villager, you could trade with them (is in 1.3) or you could see if a favor is available. these quests could be basic like giving them certain items. you should also get exp from the new trading system.
( p.s. btw, in 1.3, ores drop exp when mined, except for gold and iron, because smelting gives exp too.)
