ok people, one of the beautiful things in minecraft is that ppl can invent stuff.
one category of this is traps, in this case mob traps, they are really cool! some kill mobs, some trap them, one problem... mobs almost never fall into them...
so we need bait. while snow golems can (hypothetically) be used as bait to make mobs wander into the traps, how often does that actually work? there are few traps that can be baited with snow golems. (effectively)
this is what I propose: bait sandwiches. they are entities that work exactly like cakes in terms of their placement, and how they are effected as they are eaten.(you know, how they get smaller and smaller)
mobs will attempt to stand on the sandwich. however, unlike cakes, mobs (and players) will be able to walk through them. (similar to the way signs work) this is so that they could be placed on pressure plates ( and float over it like cakes do) then the mob would stand on the pressure plate and try to eat thesandwich while the trap tears them to shreds.
when when the mobs "stand on" the sandwich they will eat it, one piece at a time, eating one piece every second or so. they will regain one heart of health for each piece eaten. but only if they havent taken damage in the last 5 seconds
also: keep in mind that since it heals mobs it could be used to heal golems and pets.
the sandwich will look like a submarine sandwich with a tooth pick through the top.
this is one possibility for how it would be crafted.
btw the leaves shown above would actually be grass.also any cooked meat could be used for the meat in the center.
another thing is that it could be made that cooked meat would draw in passive mobs and raw meat would draw in hostile or neutal mobs. or even other alternatives that would make certain sandwiches draw certain mobs. like for example a pork sandwich might draw only pigs. (there are a billion ways to do this)
here is another way that could work for a crafting combo:
please reply if you like it, even if all you say is "I like this idea" or "sounds cool"
however, input and/or criticism is appreciated as long as dont say stuff like "you *%@# this idea sucks (blahblahblah) i would prefer: "how about if it was like this..." or "it wont work if it doesn do this..."
btw: yes, i am aware that ppl can make mob farms on spawners and there is no point in trapping passives, but i am talking about how if this is done ppl will be able to make effective traps in the middle of no-where.
But in all seriousness, this would hardly be necessary. Mobs rarely fall into traps? Tell that to everyone who uses mob traps to this day. If it were so ineffective as you'd like us to believe, it wouldn't see such widespread use as it does. Besides, half the fun in trapping is that you don't always catch your prey. If you have some magical mob-attracting sandwich, it'd make it too easy.
Plus a pork sandwich drawing pigs just screams cannibalism...That's not cool, man.
I do not like this idea because catching mobs would be too easy.
Also, there is already an item that makes passive mobs follow you, it's called wheat and it makes catching passive mobs too easy as is.
As for as aggressive mob traps go, people can just use mob spawners.
I just can't get behind this idea at all, it seems unnecessary.
No support from me.

Kingdoms rise and fall. Just don't burn the paintings in the Louvre, that's all.

im aware that ppl use mob spawner to farm mobs, but you have confused mob farms and mob traps
farms/grinders are centered on a mob trap, i dont care about trapping passives, i was just making examples.
mobs DO almost never fall into traps in the open world (not near mob spawners)
and a sandwich is the idea because its kind of an original thing, something minecraft is kind of famous for coming up with is fairly original ideas.
also: mob spawners only operat when ur within 17 blocks so...
oh and the sandwich wouldnt be too OP because it could only attract within a certain distance, and mobs will eat it while theyre caged if its one of the traps that doesnt kill, so for that kind it's not like your gonna wax six mobs a night.
If there were any type of bait added to the game I would see it more as a feeding trough or a bay of hail or maybe a feed box that you could insert wheat into.
This is an interesting concept. I'd like to see some form of baiting added to Minecraft soon.
For now, you can always just hold wheat in your hand to lead passive mobs to your pastures. I'm not sure what else to tell you though.
If you're trying to trap hostile mobs then its rather simple; minus time consumption and the drainage of resources.
Make a large room in the sky with a hole in it and four streams of water all pointing towards the middle of the room where the hole is. But make it just big enoug that none of the water falls out of the hole. Then far below on ground level dig a pit three blocks deep and then build stair case down to it (preferably with fences so mobs can't escape) then place one block deep of water throughout the pit. Mobs will fall in and most likely live and then you can shoot them with arrows kill them with your sword or mass murder them with potions.
the reason i want it to work like cake is because of the way cake can be placed on pressure plates so it will work with any trap without havig to change the trap itself.
