When playing Minecraft today, I noticed that on snapshot 24, I was receiving 3,000 FPS. Some of you may be thinking, "Wow that sounds great!" Its not considering that it could literally melt the CPU of the computer. I understand that putting Minecraft on the "Power saving" option caps the FPS to 40, but that's just too laggy. There needs to be an option where you can type in the desired FPS cap so people who purchase strong graphics card do not have there computer damaged.
I don't understand how 40 fps could be laggy as after 30 fps the human eye can barely tell the difference, if it can at all. Most games (such as Halo) are even locked in at a standard 30 fps.
That being said, I don't see why we can't change the number ourselves.

Its laggy because Minecraft FPS is "unstable." When playing the FPS goes up and down constantly. This happens even more when using intense mods like shaders. When playing technic with the power saving option on I get about 3 FPS. I'm not quite sure how they designed the power saving option on the minecraft client. Either way, this problem will progress in the future as more powerful graphic cards come out.

That makes more sense. I just tried it myself and while I normally get a very high FPS I was stuck between 20-40 on Power Saver. I see two possible solutions. They could either stabilize what is supposed to be a locked framerate (which should be done anyways) but I do agree that this is a good solution as well.

Wrong section. This is for "Computers, Software, and Technology" or probably the "Minecraft Game Client Support". (please specify which section should the topic go there)
You are the first person I have ever seen on a forum to say, "Oh...you're right." The one person in the world who doesn't start some stupid forum fight.

That wouldn't be the case if he had to turn down the framerate to keep hist GPU from breaking. Memory is not an issue.
