One thing I've wished for is more excuses to build in Minecraft. I already have a building for about every feature and my town has stopped expanding. I've found a village but I can think of little to do with it besides building more houses.
There may already be a post for this, but I just wanted to post it incase there wasnt.
A random idea I had was a "mayor" that requests you build stuff for the village. (The mayor is not necessary. It could just be random villagers)
With the trading system, you can barter with the villagers. Maybe there can be a new type of villager. One "mayor" for every village. When you "trade" with him, he requests you build stuff for the village.
"Our village lacks a way to obtain books. Could you please build a library for our librarians?"
Something like that. When you build what he requests, he gives you emeralds (or something else).
If theres no mayor, then librarians would ask for a library, farmers would ask for farms, butchers would ask for meat shops, etc.
One problem I thought of was how to make it so that the mayor doesnt give you money (or more then necessary) for just making a dirt box with a door.
Solution: When the mayor asks for, say, a library, he will ask that the building have "At least 10 bookshelves". He will not give you the emeralds until there is a building with a roof and walls that contains the requirement.
Maybe, he could also give you more based on, what blocks you use, how many blocks you use (maybe there can be a minimum), if you added more "bookshelves" than required, etc.
The only problem I can still think of is how the "mayor" knows what is the structure you're building for him and what is everything else...
Please add your opinions, ideas, polite criticisms. This was just a random thought I had while wanting more to do in Minecraft.
Wow. Finally, a decent villager suggestion. Except, I'm not sure about the mayor talking to you - seeing as villagers are not human and can't speak English. What if there was, instead of the trading GUI, it showed the number and type of required blocks on the left (eg 10 bookshelves, 2 wooden stairs), and the payment amount on the right?

Yeah, I probably was thinking of a "mayor" because I had "villager factions" in mind also.
