Have you ever wanted to create a redstone mechanism? But, you need it very compact. Some ways, this can work, other ways, it cannot. Most of the time, wires will mix together where they should not, and there is no room to expand. Well, this suggestion (if it gets implemented) will fix that!
I personally believe that it would be fantastic to make it to where you could right-click redstone wire, and change the output direction. Placing the redstone would be the same as it always has. But, once you right-click, it would toggle through directions: Forwards-backwards, then left-right. And then you could get "elbow" shapes. And then back to normal.
I would LOVE Mojang and Minecraft if they implemented this. Anyone else agree? Give trustworthy feedback please!
In some cases, redstone repeaters CAN be used. But, in others, they cannot. Image these lovely porkchops are redstone wires.

The "redstone wire" that is pointed out is conflicting with the one on its left. There is no room in front of it, so you cant loop around. This is one situation that directions can be used.

Just place a redstone wire in the joint, problem solved.
I remember finding a bluestone mod a while back [http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=UG&feature=related&hl=en-GB&v=zTHfpcFtKYQ], there you go
If this isn't updated, then let me add some ideas:
blustone and redstone can only connect if through powered blocks
use lapis for blustone.
Alright, roses are redstone, pork is repeaters, all repeaters are facing the same direction:
Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but this shouldn't conflict, regardless of direction you want the current to flow. This basically splits the current in two directions.
I really don't see the conflict.
i support this movement that or the other suggestion that allows one to add dye to redstone to change the color so they have different currents. and also if there was 3 lines next to each other each doing something different this would make it so repeaters do only that elongate the signal.

I have agreed that repeaters can help this situation, but there are some cases that repeaters wont help. Repeaters can only get redstone input from the back, which means you would have to loop a wire in certain situations, and can cause redstone wires to conflict. This is where changing the direction, and preventing conflict can help.
This is a problem for many people but I believe this is a terrible idea of solving it, I prefer the one where you can dye redstone as it would also work on wires running next to each other.
If that became a part of Minecraft, I wouldn't mind actually. I am actually just sort of looking for a way to separate redstone wiring, and this is what I personally came up with.
And the reason I dont just want to use a mod is because I came up with this idea in a multiplayer server, seeing as most mods are not for SMP, let alone Bukkit or other hosting programs.
I myself already wrote a suggestion like this when I first joined the forums, long before I became a mod. I can't close this and link to mine as it would be biased but I can at the very least post my OP from that thread for informational purposes:
As many Redstone Engineers know, there are a few fundamental flaws in how Redstone dust is placed. This covers the big issues, and a suggested fix until Notch has time to fix it legitimately. Please note that trying to explain this with text and little icons doesn't work so well so when I can I'll make some pictures to explain it better.
For all examples, = Redstone Wire, = Inputs, and = Outputs
Issue 1 - Redstone cannot power to devices adjacent to each other on the same plane
What this issue means is Redstone simply cannot power two devices that are right next to each other on the same layer. Look at the example below.
In that example, the input gives power to the wire, but as the wire is right next to another wire, it forces a straight line and refuses power to both devices. These are the only alternatives:
Alternate Layer for every other output: :RFlower:( :RFlower:) :Furnace:( :Furnace:)
Icons surrounded by () are raised up one layer by placing a block underneath them.
Spread out Circuits More:
Both of these are extremely inefficient and make some circuits downright impossible. My solution is simple. The one thing you can't do with right click while aiming at Redstone is place blocks, torches, or more redstone.. So why not make so right clicking placed redstone force the wire to make a path towards you?
For the first example, all you would have to do is stand on the two output spots and right click the wire leading to it. It would force the wire to go that direction as well, thus enabling more compact circuitry. Right clicking it from the same side again would remove that split.
Issue 2 - The well documented and often suggested vertical Redstone wire.
This one is obvious too. It has also been discussed numerous times. I really only included it for completeness. Currently, vertical Redstone transmission requires multiple Redstone torches and quite a bit of space. What's more, it looks ugly and makes you want to hide the circuitry, which makes for more wasted space and less efficient circuits. The solution has been well suggested. Make so we can place Redstone Wire on walls and ceilings the same way we do with floors. I know that going upwards with the current Redstone Torch system actually uses less wire. However, using the same system going downwards uses 33% more Dust, and twice as much space.
