right now the only boss is the enderdragon. it has long been thought of that there might be more bosses in the future. i heard of an idea for a red dragon, but i thought it was kinda silly considering that the only current boss is a dragon. so what about a massive, poisonous spider that shoots webs at you and spawns little minions? that would be a cool unique boss would add some much needed and appreciated variety to what is right now(probably) the most commonly played game in the world.
first let me explain the arena where the fight would take place.
it would consist of a huge dome with about 3 layers of dirt around the edges, ceiling and floor, beneath that would be two layers of stone and then bedrock. unlike the end or nether, it would be well lit by npc village style lamps (or if preferred glowstone deposits) hanging from the ceiling and protruding from the floor.
in the center there would be a pit in the ground about 25x25 blocks wide. the pit would be dark enough so that the monster spawners in the center of it could operate. these spawners would spawn both cave spiders and ordinary ones.
the rest of the floor would be covered in a loose forest, broken by occaisional thick areas and large clearings.
the boss itself would be a massive blood-red spider (although i could settle for a poisonous looking green). the spider would be larger even than the enderdragon. any contact with it would damge you like a fully charged bowshot. however, it would not try to atack you in this manner.
unlike ordinary spiders it would be able to climb on ceilings and when doing so it would hang upside down. just like cave spiders it would not be slowed by cobwebs. it would attack primarily through a combonation of these methods:
it would shoot five round bursts of cobwebs at you similar to the way blazes do with fireballs, but this attack would not have the fire moveing in such a straight line, but would scatter more.
it would then shoot spawn eggs that spawn cave or ordinary spiders just like a creative mode spawn egg would
these enemies would not despawn in peaceful, nor would spiders become neutral in bright light.
snowballs would damage the boss just like the enderdragon, but the red spider will try to deflect projectiles with its front two legs (failing to do so often) meaning that the horde of arachnid foes and ever worsening status of the cob webby terrain will not be the only thing stopping players from just camping there sniping the boss from a protected spot.
the red spider will spend most of its time on the ceiling, trying to snipe you with its diabolical web+spider combo.
i will make a model out of wool in creative mode soon.
also i think i will let mojang figure out how to get to the boss in the game

i dont like this idea it sounds like a beefed up version of the skyrim spider boss. and this spider sounds WAY over powered
let me explain why its NOT OP
the reason why is because its going to sit in one spot in a welll lit room with no way to heal itself. as long as you use shears instead of swords to slash the cobwebs you will have enough time to shoot it down without getting overwelmed by the minions it spawns.
it will actually be easier to kill than the enderdragon because it cant heal, it cant ambush u beacuse it doesnt blend in and its massive so you wont miss.
also, while the minions dont despawn in peaceful the monster spawners WILL fail to operate on this difficulty
Problem with large mobs is how they move. Spawn a giant and it gets stuck very easy making it not much of a boss.

did anyone understand the concept that it spends about 90% of its time on the ceiling?(which is flat bythe way) also, a giant mob that climbs like a spider would not have this problem. (not as much) it wouldnt need to move to attack because it attacks with ranged things.

yes they are, but as the boss will never leave the ceiling unless forced to do so, so if they can de-spawn it will have no form of attack.
or maybe the eggs could explode, and then the mobs still despawn?
