So I'm sure we all know now that in the new snapshots and upcoming updates that we will be able to earn XP from mining. Some may like it, some may not. I'm also sure that some of you have noticed that when mining iron and gold you do not receive XP. If you haven't figured it out, this is because when you mine these specific blocks they drop the block itself, therefore it would allow you to place and replace the block to farm XP fairly easy. So here we are with this issue although some may not care at all, I will propose two answers to this.
1. Make the block register to only drop experience the first time.
If the block is placed down by a player the game recognizes it and it will not drop XP when mined.
This is a fairly simple concept, but may prove to be a challenge to implement.
2. Make a special 'iron ore' and 'gold ore' item.
This makes the ores act like diamond, coal, redstone, lapis, and the new emerald ores which drop items, making it easier to give the XP to the player. You still have to place it in a furnace to turn it into ingots, but it is an item and not a block that you receive when mining. You can still receive the block itself with silk touch.
There should be an option on the poll for making the act of smelting only give experience for iron and gold, which is what I would be in favor of since getting experience from smelting everything makes little sense.
You get XP from smelting everything. This is a way so that you can get XP from mining it directly. Think of it as XP from killing the pig, and then XP from cooking the porkchops.
