This seriously needs to be improved. The one feature that I would absolutely LOVE to see in Minecraft is a better hardcore mode. There is really only one thing I would like added, but it would hardcore mode REALLY challenging.
Mobs need to actually hunt you down.
If they are within about 30-40 blocks of you, they will come straight at you. They will always come after you, and they will, and can find your shelter. They are attracted to light, like Amnesia, and they can all smash doors.
I've always wanted something like this too. I think that changing up the AI for enemies on hardcore mode to make them harder to kill would make hardcore more worthy of its title. Like you said, monsters noticing you from afar, searching lit areas for players and having all mobs be able to tear down doors and such would make mobs much scarier. Some other things in hardcore could be that zombies run at you like zombie pigmen do, skeletons try to back away from you when being approached to nail more hits on you and creepers will try to hide behind obstacles and find the best way to sneak up on the player unnoticed but will quickly super charge themselves and head straight at you when they are spotted. When a player is found, they should alert other mobs to help kill their victim. Skeletons should also be able to hop on spiders to reach the player faster and then hop off if they need to break down the door and enter the house. Oh, and spiders would try to circle around you between attacks, making swarms of them much harder to fight off.
How would a creeper break a door....... guess it will just have to use it's head (see what I did there). Having all mobs break doors down is kind of irrelevant, considering you can just place a common dirt block right outside/inside the door.

I find the lack of turtles in your thread disturbing
I know alot of people are going to walk on me and accuse me of being a noob but I'm not good enough at Minecraft to survive on hardmode as it is... My last hardcore world a skeleton shot me as I was on the edge of a cliff and I fell off but barely survived... until I noticed the creeper I landed RIGHT NEXT TO.... Lol.
Hardcore mode needs a little balancing. Unless you spawn next to sheep it is really hard to get a bed before your first night. And the first night of Minecraft is always the hardest because you have no armor and at best a stone sword unless you get lucky with rare drops.
But I guess thats what hardcore mode is about isn't it? Having the best game challenge you can have...
Think about it though; except for fighting the Ender Dragon, Minecraft only gets easier as it progresses. Armor to armor enchantments... better weapons and then more enchantments... Most games get harder the more you play but its the opposite with Minecraft because the more you play the more protected your character becomes and all the mobs remain exactly the same.

Answer: Purple, because aliens don't wear hats.
