Under in the depths of the ground, Steve ventures through an enormous system of caves. As he stops to eat some bread, he spots a faint glow far ahead. Thinking that it’s lava, he hurries on expectantly. But to his confusion, there isn’t any lava in there – in fact, an entire section of the cave is glowing! He uses his Silk Touch iron pick to hack out a chunk of the wall, and realizes that it isn’t normal rock. Using the pick to chop up more, he mines straight up and elevates himself. The patch of glowing rock fades, but he encounters a few more pockets, until he’s breaking through a solid layer of the weird mineral. Finally, he breaks through to the surface, and looks around. Unlike the normal terrain in his homeland, this island is covered with vegetation, and several palm trees are scattered around, and he sees a flock of oversized birds in the distance. Climbing out of the hole, Steve sets off to explore this alien world…
“What’s this world you’re depicting?” You ask. I present, the TROPICAL PARADISE.
The tropical paradise is a “surprise” island biome that’s really rare, like the mushroom biome. Its main differences are the mobs in it and it’s geography.
First, the “oversized birds” mentioned are Dodo birds. Dodo birds are neutral, and will attack if hurt. It has the same health and damage as a zombie, but it can sprint much faster than the player, and they take 0.2x knockback. They can be tamed and ridden. First, you will need 2-5 feathers to tame it. Then, if you put on a saddle, you can ride it. As mentioned before, it can sprint very fast, but it can also jump 3 blocks high! However, riding it will deplete its “hunger bar”. A depleted hunger bar will not hurt it, but when it’s too hungry it will only jump one block and stagger at the speed of a zombie. You have to feed it food to make it move again. Also, sometimes Dodo birds will sometimes spawn as semi-hostile. Semi-hostile Dodos will immediately attack if you look at them or go within 5 blocks of them, making even daytime travel dangerous. Also, only sheep can spawn out of all the passive mobs. Hostile mobs can still spawn.
In my story, there are “glowing rocks” underground. These are called Illum, and look exactly like normal stone except for the fact that they have a white sheen. They give off a weak light, not really illuminating but enough to stop hostile mobs from spawning on the block’s surface. This glowiness will only last for 20 blocks below sea level, after that they will only appear in increasingly smaller patches the further you go down. A lot of emeralds will spawn here, at about the frequency of gold. Also, if you don’t use silk touch on the Illum, it will just revert back to cobblestone when mined. In addition to that, the grass on the surface will spawn as Glowass, which glows like Illum. Dodos can ONLY spawn on Glowass, but if you take it with Silk Touch elsewhere Dodos will still spawn naturally. The unique geography will make the night safe, and force the monsters to spawn underground, but the semi-hostile Dodos will still make staying there dangerous. This will also solve transportation problems.
As for the trees, they are palm trees which have a separate wood texture. Their leaves extend as long strips instead of clusters. The islands only spawn rather far out in oceans, BUT are not so rare as mushroom islands.

This sounds a lot like the tropicraft mod. But I personally would change this so its like a really rare biometric found aeging the ocean and on ( what minecraft call) beaches. It would be like what you said but not he an island

For some reason I thought you'd dug your way into some kind of underground glowing tropical cave. but that's cool too.
I think your Dodo's are interesting but I wouldn't go all the way out to the middle of no where for a rideable creature if it ate all my food. Make a note of how much it eats and we'll discuss how reasonable it is. Another is get rid of the semi-hostile part. That's silly.
So...you've invented a mob whose sole purpose is to be annoying? No. Just make them passive. Mushroom islands don't have any hostile or semi-hostile mobs, so there's no reason why these jungle islands can't either.
Some of these ideas are cool - like the glowing rock - but it doesn't sound "paradisey" enough.

Why not just glowgrass or something? I really hope you understand why people find "glowass" a ridiculous/funny name...
