Today I had the idea for a new difficulty, Brutal.
In this new difficulty, every thing is insane.
Here is a quick rap up of what this difficulty does:
- Your health bar is halved
- Mobs are faster, except for spiders
- Mobs do the same damage as in Normal
- Night is longer, day time is shorter
- You drown faster
- Charged Creepers have chances of spawning
- Zombies break doors faster
- Your hunger is slower, but will still kill you once depleted
- Zombies will rarely give you hunger
- Skeletons will sometimes give you slowness ( since mobs are now faster, they maybe inescapable )
- You will very slowly die in the nether, unless hunger is full.
So ya... pretty insane right?
But that's not all...
This will introduce a new gamemode: Insanity
It's simply hardcore, but with this difficulty locked on.
Comment on how you think of my idea, I except criticism, but no trolls.
First off, it's accept not except. Secondly, is this suppose to be more difficult then hardcore? Is it like HC that when you die, you're permenentley dead? Are bed's unuseable? Otherwise the longer nights is sorta pointless if the player can just sleep it off. Also, since you already went ahead and cut health in half, I think it would be more brutal if all tools and equipment only has half as much durability.
Although, honestly... we already have hardcore, which is quite challenging for most players already. A new difficultly mode isn't exactly needed, but I suppose some crazed MC players out there would love it.

It's than, not then.
As to the topic at hand, it's a nice idea, and I agree with Mjosh's idea to disable beds, delete the map upon death, and have any item with durability also be damaged twice as fast.
This would be quite nice for people who want a new challenge.
I think it should double the chances of getting the effect you get when eating rotten flesh for all raw foods. Also make breeding animals turned off so you must travel for your food. Also more spawners and less water.
Overkill. If you're adding all these other difficult things, just leave the health bar alone.
- Night is longer, day time is shorter
So the sky speeds up during the day and slows during the night..? Like Mjosh said, a player could just skip the long nights if beds work.
- Your hunger is slower, but will still kill you once depleted
Slower?
- Zombies will rarely give you hunger
What..?
- Skeletons will sometimes give you slowness ( since mobs are now faster, they maybe inescapable )
This would really suck if 2 or more of these things were near you. A bunch of skeletons spamming arrows and giving me slowness would **** me off to no end.
- You will very slowly die in the nether, unless hunger is full.
Overkill. That kinda makes me never want to visit the Nether at all.

P.S. Maybe make Spider Jockeys more common.

That means Rotten Flesh has a 160% chance to poison you...
Doesn't work.
