Hey Guys, I was just thinking of this idea the other day, it might be complete crap so please tell me what you think of it:
What if the multiplayer was made so, in a way, all of the server worlds (kingdoms of Minecraftia) were connected? it might be too hard to have it so you can blend from one ip to the other by walking far away or what if you could switch which ip you are on just by standing near the spawn, then it could say something like:
'Teleporting [player name] to another planetoid/Kingdom of Minecraftia' It might not be completely practical but I think it would add an interesting depth to the game, like you are in a whole new place when you boot up multiplayer. And I've always liked the idea of Minecraftia.
I remember there being talk a LOOONG time ago about the possible implementation of portals being made that automatically disconnect you from one server and connect you to the server that the portal is linked to. But I don't have a source on it. It's a neat idea in theory but would take a lot of work to implement.

I don't know how the coding behind any of this works since I know very little about the technical aspects of computers, but I think it would be really interesting if you could create an in-game "portal" (some sort of actual item) and then connect it to a specific IP.
The other IP would then have to build an equivalent portal on their side. For example, if two friends are running separate private servers but they want them connected in some way, they could do that.
I think that would be really interesting, but again I don't know much of anything about the coding that would be required to do this and how complicated it would be, but it would at least bring control to what servers could be connected, and there would need to be action from the users on both ends to make it happen...as well as direct admin approval.
Perhaps you could also add these additional servers to Ender Chests as well (again, with admin approval). Could you imagine how awesome Ender Chests shared across servers would be? Assuming it's possible of course (which now that I think about it more probably isn't, or if it is then it wouldn't be worth the effort and possible lag).

Unless you keep your inventory.
Maybe have a "superserver" which has multiple servers within it, which you can move between somehow. Portals, maybe?

It's laggy, somewhat pointless, and bugs up more often than it works. No thanks.
[quote=Badgerz]You have to keep in mind that people are stupid.
[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<
