Minecraft should have in-hand lighting. I say that because it is realistic. Since it can slow down your world, I would make a option to turn it off. Who agrees?
UPDATE: I think the best way to solve the lag problem is to make a half-second delay in the light to buffer some of the chunks when moving. And maybe shortening the light output to 5 block away!
Just to recap the counterless other threads that shot down, the main reasoning against any moving light source is the amount of lag it generates when done in real time. (And NO, its not just a client side problem. Lighting has a major affect on the game's functionality, and would have a major impact on performance if taxed too hard. Think of an RS torch loop, and imagine that happening 10 times a second for everything up to 7 blocks away from each player.)
If your gonna push forward on this concept, you need to gonna need to think both inside and outside the box at the same time to get around that 1 major limitation.

Well, That is why I suggest it have an option to turn it off.
Yes I totally agree, but many people don't like minecraft to update its own software so this gets possible. Actually, by saying this on the way you say it, you kinda ruin the image of my thread. Many people on my thread didn't want minecraft to upgrade its software to enable dynamic lightning and many other things.
I would support, but I think this is going to get nowhere, but I definately agree with you!
I think maybe i will ask the Dynamic Lighting mod to update it for snapshots. Maybe then it will be almost a feature!
