Summary(read this if you're too lazy to read the details):
I'm basically calling to rewrite the villager code, because they are too stupid.
I don't mean just the villagers, but the NPC Village code too!
Details:
Villager Mob Code:
Villagers should be like players and have an inventory, new skins(seriously, the skins suck), and pretty much every ability a player has(mining, farming, fighting, building, etc.)
There should be peaceful, neutral, and hostile villagers.
Peaceful villagers will never attack you and trade with you. They always wear leather armor as their business suit. They carry wooden swords to kill mobs, but will only breed and then kill livestock.
Neutral villagers also trade with you, but when provoked, they'll start attacking you and following you. They will wear leather or iron armor. They only have stone and iron swords.
Hostile villagers will always be exploring, like PvPers on a server. Upon sight, they'll kill you. They always wear and use gold/diamond equipment. They will be the only ones using bows.
I'll post more ideas here later! Feel free to upload your own ideas, and I'll be happy to post them here!

NPC Villages will be more common, spawning in slime chunks.
Not all will be villages. There will be different types.
Abandoned:
The most common. No villagers, just a destroyed mine/farm. Building is falling apart, but inside there are leftover loot chests(only cheap loot like food, wood tools, leather used armor, etc.).
Settlement: Less common than abandoned, but still common. Only has one villager(only peaceful/neutral), a small house, and a little mine/farm. Kill the one villager on the settlement to access the villager's items/chests. Items and loot in chest vary on type of villager(peaceful only drops food, leather armor, wood items, saplings, etc., while neutral drops iron, stone, ores, etc.)
Hamlet: 4-5 Villagers, 4-5 houses, a mine, a farm, and a shop. Only neutral/hostile communities. Kill all villagers in the hamlet to get their items/control to their chests(if it's a hostile community, you get best loot, such as potions, diamond armor, obsidian, eye of ender, etc.).
*Villages to Metropolises are all neutral communities, so have a hard time taking over them!
Village: 7-16 villagers and houses, a mine/farm, a shop, a few iron golems, churches, taverns/pubs, basically the current villages

2. They're adding trading, not more settlements, better NPCs, and warring nations!

1. They're very rare, only spawning in slime chunks, so it'll still be hard to find them.
2. Try killing a neutral, and they'll kill you with iron armor and swords.
3. They'll only kill you if within a 16 block radius.

here is an image of the slime chunks on a map, seeing as 1 of those small squares is 9x9 blocks, you would have a village every 30 blocks on average.

theres a reason villagers do nothing really. its to keep the player playing. villagers can only help you if you work to help them. if jeb made villages helpful there would be no point. he'd be making the game lose all its point. The player building and being creative. specifcally in survival its to work hard and create an epic way to survive.
you've missed the entire point. Only steve can be Steve. let everything else be its own as well.

1,thats a lot of work to make them do what they should do properly..
2. if they can mine and what not they will go thru mininjhg whatever they can till they are full..
3. it makes them "slave labor" kill a minner after a while and you get all his stuff..
