Now, this idea is not one to add more food types into the game. It is simply a basis for doing so. Often, compound foods (That is, recipes using multiple food into one, like a sammich or whatever) are not reasonable. The foods put in do not equal the output, unless the output is too overpowered to be realistic. IE, a sandwich made of a porkchop and two pieces of bread. That would be 3+3+4, or 10 hearts healed if it would be worth it to make it. Naturally, a sandwich should only give you a few hearts, maybe, at most 5 or so.
My idea, as stated earlier, isn't really a food-adding idea. It is a layout for further food-adding ideas, I guess. My suggestion is to add a second variable to eating: taste. I suppose.
This sounds silly, as you surely can't taste the in-game food. But here's how it would work. More 'edible' or tasteful foods would take less time to eat. This would clearly be at least somewhat useful. Bread would take longer to eat than, say, a tasty bread and fish sandwich. An apple would be faster to eat than a steak, but would take more time to eat than a delicious cookie.
This adds more use to foods like cookies, apples, or compound food items.
I'll add here a full table of the speed of eating each food item, starting at the fastest.
Golden Apple (1 second)
Cookie (1 second)
Cake (2 seconds/slice)
Watermelon (3 seconds)
Apple (3 seconds)
Cooked Meat (4 seconds)
Mushroom Stew (5 seconds)
Bread (5 seconds)
Raw Meat (7 seconds)
Rotten Flesh (8 seconds)
Spider Eye (10 seconds)
I would also imagine here, depending on the food, that a compound food like a Hamburger or Sandwich would most likely fit at 2.5 or so seconds. The time isn't meant to be realistic in actual length; more like, in ratio.
So, what do you think? Please leave constructive opinions in the comments, thank you
Well, it is like a typical one. Quite a few of the suggestions for new food is "sandwich" or "hamburger" or something along those lines.
The point, even if it wasn't a layered food, is that it's just another food. We have more than enough to satisfy the hunger bar and keep you sprinting. There are:
Apples
Golden apples (having regeneration)
Bread
Cookies
Beef
Porkchops
Chicken
Fish
The cooked version of the above four
Spider eyes
Rotten Flesh (This and spider eyes are good emergency food)
Watermelon
Cake
Mushroom Stew
It is not physically possible to be unable to find at least one of these somewhere.
Maybe a berry thing could be found, but it's not a high priority, and it certainly doesn't measure up to the number of foods people suggest.
Eating food most definitely should vary, but it should be based on portion size and effect, not taste. If it were, steak, porkchops, and cookies (even though that is counter to my point) would be the fastest eaten (depending on how you see it), and things like spider eyes the slowest.

However I don't think you understand exactly what I'm saying. I'm not suggesting compound foods such as sandwiches and hamburgers; but rather trying to justify them by adding a speed factor into consumation of food.

Whoops, I missed that you had that in there.
Exactly Thanks for commenting. I'll add a whole speed table to my OP.

A speed factor is a different thing, and definitely interesting if not useful.
