They are fruits which sometimes grow on spruce trees, just like Cocoa Pods on jungle trees. When you eat them, it restores 2 hunger. An additional emergency food if you get lost in a Taiga biome. The texture looks more like a pine leaf, but with some brownish stuff here.
But watch out! There is a 10% chance you will get poisoned from eating cones! You can cure it the same way as curing the cave spider poison by drinking milk.
When destroyed it drops you a cone, which you can eat. It can be smelted to reveal the opening, which gives you slightly more hunger than the other.
It can also be placed on block as decorations! I would recommend right clicking on a block will place the cone fruit on it.
Also it can be crafted into the Kindle/Tinder block...I wonder if it will be cones covering the crafting grid. It can be either burned for fuel or as a nice fireplace.
The cone can be used as a potion material...to create a potion that will give you damage and poison...also made into a splash potion.
It can also be crafted with a snowball into a "Combat Ball" which you can throw at mobs, which deal much higher damage than a regular snowball.
It can be crafted into oil with a bottle and the cone fruit. But I don't need oil for lamps, we already have Glowstone and Redstone Lamps. It can be used for brewing potions as well.
Sometimes when you destroy a cone, it will drop Cone Seeds. When placed on farmland, you can place the seeds. Mobs take damage, and you will also take damage from touching the cones planted on farmland.
You'll be left with the Cone seeds after eating them...so, it can be used on a Dispenser like arrows and snowballs...
I wouldn't consider food being its primary purpose, since realistically they aren't very tasty.
After skimming through some google hits, here are some MC themed uses that might fit
- Fuel source
- Compressed into Kindle/Tinder Block (which can create a nice fire block, or be burnt for fuel)
- Potion material
- Combine with a snow ball to make a combat oriented snow ball
- Extract pine nuts from (which would be a nice food)
- Refined into an oil for use with lamps or potions
- Used in some kind of monster repellant
- Decorations
You can't add food items to the game that are too easy to farm and obtain right off the bat, and your idea is both. No way a pine cone should feed you more than a melon slice and be found much more easily. Your basically adding rotten flesh that grows on trees.
And then there is the one-line alternate uses and suggestions you have. There is nothing wrong with making your idea have other mechanics to make it more useful or unique, but you don't even really go into much detail and most of them are unprecedented ideas with no basis on existing mechanics. Oil Lamps? Combat balls? Cone seeds? THOUGHT OVERLOAD. If these were to be acceptable, you should have at least put the time and effort to expand each idea into at least a few bullet points or a paragraph. But your just throwing them out there like uncontrollable thought spasms.
This is not needed in the game and I don't really see any way you could change it to make it acceptable.
