It's a thing people can play in their survival worlds if they feel like it.
I call it a "Borrower" run.
It's based on living underground 24/7 and never surfacing.
The Rules:
Before you go underground to live permanently, you need a furnace, crafting table, chest, 4 torches, a set of stone tools excluding hoes, and a few saplings. Some dirt and sugar cane is also allowed.
After you have that, stop going aboveground. Dig at least 10 blocks down and don't go higher. Bring your stuff and cover up the hole.
You must build an underground tree farm.
You must use 3 of your torches to give the saplings light. Do whatever with the last one.
You can only live on apples, rotten flesh, and anything you happen to find in dungeons.
