Let me start with saying that I love the new snapshots! All the new content is great and the SMP SSP integration will be amazing as a modder! There are some new issues that come up in SSP in the new snapshots because of this integration.
The first is the inability to pause. Of course this comes up because we are now playing on a local server. But my suggestion is to add logic to the server that can receive a pause from a player, and set that player's pause state to true. This of course still does not pause the system, but what it will do is allow for a nice if statement in the main update logic that will check to see if there is exactly one player, and if there is check if that one player's pause state is true. This will allow people to pause on servers if they are the only ones online. This fixes the inability to pause in single player, which is a drawback for people who want to play singleplayer so they can still text or respond to messages online without having to exit entirely. Also, maybe you can make it part of the server config so you can disable pausing if you are hosting a server!
Another issue I've run into is that when you want to play offline, you are no longer signed in on your name, so the local server will make you some new player on it, thus you do not have any of your items. I feel this is a much more complex issue to fix, however, and also now as pressing, since most people who play this have semi reliable internet, but is still an issue that should be fixed.
If the pause isn't done during the next actual update (1.3 not the next snapshot) I'll probably make a mod for it.
I would imagine both those issues will be fixed for the actual update. I guess that right now Jeb and co don't consider it to be particularly important compared with getting the code working and the game-breaking bugs worked out seeing as the snapshots are experimental and entirely optional.
Probably, but there's something I need to know; Is the SSP-SMP merge meaning that people can join your Single Player world, like on Xbox 360?
