You can't judge xp with levels. You judge it with... XP! I'd suggest lowering the xp amount. If you need to grind xp, and you have a bow; it would be too easy.
WOW I thought this going to be one of those boring useless posts from some newbie. Then I saw sach's quote and I was like well this must be good and I have to say I completely agree there was obviously immense amounts of work put into this thread and I am fully supporting it to you!
Side note, to address a few things:
Chameleonred5 "It's a lot easier to avoid above ground than in a tight, underwater maze."
A tight spaced Temple Is JUST as viable, My firend.
EXP levels are debatable =3

I read a post you had made a little bit ago in which you mentioned you have been fight for this idea for a while, and decided to check it out. I think it is a good idea. Personally, I would have gone with the cliche of a mummified villager over a golem, but your idea makes just as much sense to me.
Keep fighting for this, and I will publicize this a bit. Also, you should try and ask a mod maker, rather than relying on one to fall out of the sky. I myself may be able to turn it into a mod, but it would not be until 1.8 is more stable.

I don't know.
It's a nice suggestion and all, but in my opinion it's "just not MineCraft"
I'll edit this post later...

Thanks allot! I'm waiting to hear back from one actually. hopefully he bites =p
Why did you send me a message to come take a look at this again? I don't see anything different. It's the same too-easy-to-kill-boss. Whatever I said months ago, it was apparently ignored.

Okay. Here Is what we will do.
See, I can "Cheese" the wither and Elder Guardians, And the Dragon, No sweat. You know why? Because I've been around since before redstone was implemented.
Now, I want you to think for one bloody moment how it was when you FIRST started playing minecraft. Or when you FIRST fought a Skeleton, a Zombie, a Creeper, Spiders, ANY of those. My best guess is you died like so many others did.
Think back to your first house. What was it made of? Mine was made of cobblestone and in a small hillside where i felt Safe from the monsters and wonders of the world. Remember the first time you slew the Ender Dragon and how accomplished you felt as hundreds of EXP rained from the sky.
You are clearly a seasoned player, Chameleonred, But not EVERYONE is a hardcore warrior that knows every loophole and every bit of info in the game.
This mob is NOT JUST FOR YOU. Its for everyone. The Veterans, The Noobs, The Map Makers.
Imagine how accomplished a new player would feel after preparing hard to beat a new threat they knew nothing about. Can you do it? Have you lost the sense of wonder this game gives people in place of cold calculation?
Think about it that way, THEN tell me what you think. And if you still feel the same way, What do YOU want to see changed?
[EDIT] I will be closely listening this time.

Plus, if someone is disappointed with the amount of health this mob has, he or she can just summon the mob with as many hitpoints as he or she pleases. Also, full support. It would make deserts WAYYYY more interesting.
Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!

My sense of wonder still exists. For generation, exploration, mining, and several other things. I never had a sense of wonder where enemies are concerned. It's either fight or flight for them.
My first house was a tree house in a jungle. This one required me to look up ladders. My second house was a stone brick building on top of a lake. This one required me to look up iron bars. My third house was a small room built right in the side of a desert sand dune. This one required me to look up minecraft physics. All of these are things that I still look at and think would be cool housing even with years of experience. I am the wrong person to ask about my first structures. Similarly, I'm the wrong person to ask about fighting my first evil mobs. With the exception of the enderman, which I gravely underestimated, it was just a quick trip to the wiki, a few small combat tests in which I fled underground if they became too much, and I was proficient in combat. If not for the death with the enderman and a few falling-deaths (I did live in a huge tree after all and never had the patience to get down using the ladder), I could've started in hardcore and that world would've survived to today.
The first time I slew the enderdragon legitimately was two months ago. I was already an experienced player by then. I had already gone there in creative one year prior and seen all there is to see (although I often wish I hadn't done that).
Perhaps I'm overestimating the power of newbies. I understand that people think that newbies are defenseless little mewlings, and I understand why (From Zero Punctuation's "Why are my guts suddenly everywhere" to TobyGames' "Oh no, you're ugly" first reactions to creepers, it's not that hard to get). However, that's only those who have just spawned and have no idea what they're doing. Anyone who plays longer than fifteen minutes or dies even once from things they don't understand why they died from will go to the wiki, unless they're doing some bizarre thing for subscribers in which they decide not to look at it even once and figure out crafting by trial and error. And even then, they'll learn.
Those are just for the common things. Spiders, skeletons, fall damage, hunger, etc. They are challenges that are overcome anywhere you spawn, from the moment you start playing. You're suggesting a boss, in a relatively uncommon structure, in a single biome. I don't think it's too much to ask for it to be a little bit more difficult. And if a player who has no idea what it is comes upon it, they will either fight and fail, dying, respawning, searching the wiki, gaining some new knowledge, OR they will run away/hide, look at the wiki, and gain some new knowledge. Just like every challenge you stumble across. I am not concerned with newbies. It's an obvious challenge in an obviously uncommon structure. If nothing else, it becomes: "Lesson learned. Do not charge into a mysterious building without planning or caution first."
Looking at my original suggestions for modifications, they seem to be a bit strict. You've also added the lazer, which takes care of one thing I said while also seeming to be a bit unfitting (though I don't have too much against it). So now let's see what I can come up with.
1. The primary purpose of this mob is defending the treasure. How does it stop someone who just digs straight there? I think that the treasure is further than 10 blocks down, so it wouldn't wake up.
2. What does "weaker than sandstone" mean? If it means blast resistance, then a simple cobble or even wood plank wall will stop its charge. And would the wall only need to be one block high to stop it?
3. The lazer can only break "weaker than sandstone." Again, if this means blast resistance, then cobble or wood planks would be able to stop it.
4. It says it does not attack mobs. What about when mobs attack it by accident?
5. Does the lazer only aim straight towards you? If so, it may be difficult for it to climb out of a hole.
I'd want you to reconsider things or add things to account for these.

1. The primary purpose of this mob is defending the treasure. How does it stop someone who just digs straight there? I think that the treasure is further than 10 blocks down, so it wouldn't wake up.The Range Is 20 *32 after it wakes up. I believe that is enough?
2. What does "weaker than sandstone" mean? If it means blast resistance, then a simple cobble or even wood plank wall will stop its charge.I suppose so, Yes. Sand, Dirt, Gravel, Ect. And would the wall only need to be one block high to stop it?I'd Say at LEAST two Blocks high.
3. The lazer can only break "weaker than sandstone." Again, if this means blast resistance, then cobble or wood planks would be able to stop it.Do you think the "lazer" needs to be buffed? Lights wood on fire and such? Destroy anything with a Blast resistance under 30? his includes sandstone sadly, but would definitely make it able to beam through the floor to get you while you're opening the chest.
4. It says it does not attack mobs. What about when mobs attack it by accident?Ah thank you for reminding me of that. a bit of information was lost while reconstructing and reformatting the thread.
5. Does the lazer only aim straight towards you? If so, it may be difficult for it to climb out of a hole.I was thinking of sort of an ark. Starting from left to right with the player being the center focal point.
I'd want you to reconsider things or add things to account for these.I'll do my best! Thanks for your input!

So basically, it has a high attack and almost no defense?
And also, I think it should be called a "sandstone golem" and have the sandstone textures or something that makes it hard to see.

Well I don't think the texture is all that important personally. We will all most likely use resource packs which would change it any way.
The Range Is 20 *32 after it wakes up. I believe that is enough?
Doesn't matter if it doesn't wake up to begin with. Perhaps add one in an underground chamber connected to the treasure room?
Do you think the "lazer" needs to be buffed? Lights wood on fire and such?
I'd think that it would do that anyways.

Perhaps you could have it be unable to effect the specific blocks of the temple, except over the treasure?
Empty
Still support. But since it's been so long, maybe Jeb or Dinnerbone has seen it and didn't like it
Timeless Modding is kinda dead but idk what to put here now
I occasionally make textures/models for random people. Contributed to: Tinker's Construct, Growthcraft, and Animals+

What I meant by "not Minecrafty" was something dumb, don't worry about it.'
Only thing I can say is the lapis around its arms and legs. Looks kinda ugly.
