In the survival mode of minecraft food must be more important in my opinion. Right now a player only suffers from hunger for first few minutes. After that the player gets enough food to keep him full for days.
Adding a time to rot for foods would give food a more important role in survival and it would make more sense for player to farm regularly.
So my suggestion is food should rot after a time when its not consumed if the player is playing on hard or hardcore mode. Rotten food should cause food poisoning just like rotten flesh. And each food should have its unique rot time. For example bread should be able to last without rotting for days or golden apple should never rot.
What would this add to the game? All it would do is make things more tedious. Rather than making a nice big farm and harvesting it every few hours, you'd have to keep a much smaller one and harvest it more regularly.
I agree what you are saying like if raider per say came over and raided your farm you be dead or dying but you can save food by ice box or something along the lines of it so it takes longer to rot
