so in the floor of your house you could technically cut away a few bloks of the floor and replace it with wool to make some cool carpets, but I wanna see carpets that attach to the top of blocks like pressure plates ( and the same size as pressure plates, they would always have a little patterned border with white and could be made of any kind of colored wool.
I think it would add some creative possibilities to house designs.
As you already stated, there is a way to do it. All you did was find a way to make it look ugly because each block is going to have a stupid border around it, and when they are put together, there are going to be borders inside of it.
All you're effectively doing is finding a more complicated way to make the same exact thing.

Complicated? Hardly.
I'm not a fan of the borders idea, but having a full layer over a block (like pressure plates, but without the border), would effectively color the top of the blocks, turning it into whatever the color of the wool is.
This is different than simply using a wool block, especially in the circumstances of multiple floors. I know if I want the 2nd floor to be red on the floor, I wouldn't want the ceiling of the 1st floor to also be red.

I imagine it being decorative would mean its only purpose is to look good
