When lightning strikes sand, it creates a strange, branching structure of fused quartz/glass known as a Fulgurite. This is because lightning exceeds 5000 degrees in temperature, and that split second is enough to melt and fuse sand.
Simply enough, when lightning strikes a sand block in Minecraft, a fulgurite should attempt to form, replacing some sand blocks with glass blocks instead.
I'm not sure what usefulness this would have, it would just be interesting to find.
Minecraft isn't based on realism. I can't punch a tree and make a pickaxe out of the wood that falls out in convenient blocks. We don't need any more useless blocks in Minecraft.
Seems completely pointless to me; especially since you can't collect glass blocks. It might be cool as an aesthetic feature, but in all honesty it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference to me whether it was ever added or not.
Yeah, I agree. It sounds pretty cool, but unless SilkTouch on glass was implemented, it would be pointless
