More Currency
Well with the currant snapshot 12w21a, we now have the emerald (ore). The only issue i have is that it is so bloody rare and hard to find so i suggest that there be more types of currency or better yet more gems.
For example, there would be sapphires, rubies, topaz and different gem stone ores under ground and maybe even amber popping out jungle wood every once in a while. Each one will have its rarity and its different values and spawn in different biomes and layers so some would be easier to find and have less value while others are extremely rare and would be very valuable.
Because of there being more types of currency, there would have to be more slots in the trade interface for the currency it self (maybe the same amount of total number of the different currency (maybe one or two less XD))
There should also be a slight change in the player inventory GUI so that you can have all the currency and not take away any space for your picks and pork. Maybe there should be a button in the GUI and if you press it, it will open a new GUI or expand the inventory GUI and display the gems/ currency you currently have (kind of like a separate or second inventory). The GUI would then have just the Exact same number of slots as there are types of currency. The then max stack of each item would then vary from the type of wallet you have.
Wallet
A wallet would be a craftable item which would be equipped like armor and the tire would effect the maximum amount of currency you can carry and the amount you keep if you die. Lets say if you do not have a wallet, you can carry a maximum of around 10 of each but if you die you lose all of them. But if you have a tire 1 wallet equipped, you can have a maximum of 25 each but if you die, you keep 2~6 (8%~24%) of each. So then the highest tire wallet would maybe have 500 max for each and you keep 100~250 of each (20%~50%) of each making it superior to the lower tires. What makes it awesome is that the wallet would be the only item you wont lose if you die (other than the currency).
Bank
Well you cant deny it, sooner or later you'll run out of room for your currency. Well have no fear! With the bank you can deposit or withdraw all your precious gems! It would basically be a chest but when you right click it, an interface would pop up similar to the trade interface but all it dose is deposits and withdraws currency. In the interface you'll have options to withdraw or deposit and you would choose the amount.The interface would have the same number of slots as there are types of currency and would hold about 500 per chest.

Player to Player Trade With the currency and the player to NPC trade, it would be a good idea to have trade with other players in SMP. How would this work? Well a player would either type up a command, right click another player with nothing in their hands, or right click another player with an emerald (or other currency) in their hands.
The other player would be asked if they would like to trade the offering player (with a GUI popping up like the accept link thing or something like that). If the player accepts, a GUI would pop up like the NPC trading interface except with more slots (so that they could trade multiple items at once)
The only good thing I read was about trading in SMP by right-clicking a player with an emerald. Everything else seems like it's going a little too far.
Only once things start costing more than 64 emeralds should we add more currency items.
