Except they want weapons that fights differently than the current sword.
Since we have Villagers selling items on shops, I was wondering if they sell other weapons as well for the price of the sword/bow/arrow. Because the only way to obtain these new weapons is through the villagers, it would still make sense to still use two diamonds and one stick to buy a mace.
They are not statistically any better or worse than the regular sword or bow. The difference between them and the other weapons are the visuals for now. Perhaps later on, The developers can balance them later on through time.
These villagers could sell:
-Mace(one mace for the price of one sword)
-Axe
-Guns(One gun for the price of one bow)
-Bullets(One bullet for the price of one arrow)
-Bows with different colors/skins(One bow for a price of one bow + wool/ore)
Why have these?
I am more of a rifle person than a bow person. I could change the texture pack, but skeletons with rifles doesn't seem very immersive to me. I would like to see a variety of weapons rather than sticking with a sword.
If you want different visuals, you can just get new texture packs, or other mods. This is just silly because all it does is add unnessecary items when it doesn't need it.
Create a texture pack where all type of guns look like bows for your medieval needs. It is also possible to make Minecraft look like a modern/Renaissance setting for my gun needs.

Everything about your post makes absolute zero sense.
Why do you think there are plenty of variety of wood and wool? For 'different visuals'! Of course. Those[Different weapons] add the unnecessary items that Minecraft doesn't need equally to Wood and wool.

Visuals for weapons do not add anything specifically useful to the game. They do the EXACT same thing REGARDLESS of them being changed by a texture pack.
Now blocks that are different colours are used for a specific purpose -- one of the key parts of Minecraft is building and creating things. You can't do that with TWO types of blocks -- you can, but it would look like crap.
Next time think before you post a stupid reply, because "Why do you think there are plenty of variety of wood and wool" isn't a valid argument, it's a stupid one.
If you could built **** out of tools, i'd say good idea -- but you ****ing can't, so don't try and compare them.
A no to guns (unless they were VERY primitive) but the maces and stuff could work if you expanded on them. Otherwise it would be a worthless visual change.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

Don't like guns? Use a texture pack to turn all guns into bows.
There is no need to expand the other weapons because the difference is the visuals.

One key part of Minecraft is building and creating things. That is one key part.
Exploration, combat and adventure is not a key part? I would rather look good with a mace than with a sword. If it isn't a key part, then lets remove villages, caves, mineshafts, Ravine, mobs, weapons, the Nether, the fort, and dungeons. They are unnecessary to Minecraft as well. No not as an option, but remove it altogether. They take up too much unnecessary space according to you if you still stupidly disagree.
You can change everything with a texture pack. But an player with a duelist skin with an mace isn't as visually appealing as a knight with an mace.
I have read and re-read your topic, and i still do not understand what you are asking for???
I am asking for more weapons.
The topic is about how approach in adding more weapons.
In case you still do not understand the op...
In order to get a new weapon like a mace, you go to a villager, trade in a sword for a mace. There is no functional difference, there is only a visual difference.
Don't like guns? Use a texture pack to turn all guns into bows.
Why? Guns are overpowered. A skin isn't going to change that. And, if what I understand from the OP is true, if it has the same stats as a bow then what is the point? Just get a texture pack.

But these blocks have purpose. They can be used for creative and diffrent things. What you replied too is not saying adventure is not an important aspect, but just saying that reskinning a weapon just for visuals makes no sense at all.

Why do you want a weapon with no functional diffrence? Just use a sword. If you want a mace, use a texture pack, as you are trying to tell us to do if we don't like guns.
Not to say "There is a mod for that" but, why NOT add new functions? After playing several weapon mods (namely balkon's) changing the functions has had no negative effects.
To re-iterate:
Why add new weapons without any new functions when adding new weapons WITH new functions has not gone bad?

That is not true. The weapons need to be diffrent, but no one has really come up with an interesting concept. Re-skins just clutter the game.
