"This thread is a total win. It could not be more true and elaborate. Our old terrain generation brought wonder before our eyes. We scavenged all we could and took every cave we could find. Now we are overloaded with caves, mineshafts, and ravines. It's terrible.
Minecraft used to be place full of life. Full of adventure. You could live under an overhang like a troll or carve yourself into one of the many floating islands for the best view. You could make a minecart roller coaster head through an entire canyon and over the skies. The generation made many shapes from arches to tops. It just isn't like that anymore. Now we have boring flat planes and boring endless oceans. You can't live in the dream land anymore. It's all too realistic now, with plain old hills and stupid little mountains and ravines. Since when is minecraft realistic? We have creepers and magical dust. Minecraft is not realistic. Let it not be."
After a long hour of thinking, imagining and trying to optimize my MC experience through custom maps builds and mods... I came to the conclusion of MC Gen needs to be a little bit tweak for the grand-masters of madness... in other words you've got my full support until then I will be Fuxxing up the world gen on my own!

I agree, i never played before 1.1, but i do like the old world generation, there is 1 seed i quite like though, it is
SyndicateProject and it spawns you in extreme hills, next to a ravine. and the hills and desert hills near there are pretty wicked.
Extreme hills is the only biome with some actual interesting terrain. I totally support this. This game is not meant for realism. It's meant to be FUN.
I remember when interesting structures... were almost everywhere.
overly dramatically titled thread is overly dramatically titled!
I think his title catches people's attention and gets them to read the post ...hence why you are posting on it so his title worked apparently because you posted
mojang is a seed that gives you a LOOT of diamonds, you wont see that everyday in one cave
This thread isn't a place for advertising seeds - it's a discussion thread about whether or not seeds are now obsolete. Unless your seed is some kind of attempt to show that the current terrain generation is worthy of staying the way it is?
mojang is a seed that gives you a LOOT of diamonds, you wont see that everyday in one cave
No one is saying they don't give a loot of dimonds we are saying the terrain is boring and dull. That is repeats itself over and over and the beauty is gone !!!!!!!
After reading this post... the only thing I can think of, is to go back to 1.7 version, play it for a while, explore alot, and than update, so I can have all the new stuff: Villages, abandoned mineshafts, jungles, and such.
I don't think Mojang will ever change this, they already got all the money, and are focusing in new games.
Problem is, where do I find now a 1.7 jar without using all this mods?

Going back to 1.7 doesn't provide all of the new game content available in post 1.8 which is what this thread is talking about completely. You are offering me an alternative to the playing on a pre-1.7 map which is not what I want at all. This is by far what this thread's main purpose was. I'm a bit confused as to why people keep posting me telling me how I can play on a 1.7 map.
What the thread is saying is we want tweaking to the current map generation. And this is very possible as according to the forums 75% of the Minecraft player base wants this change implemented and whether or not they have money now doesn't really make a difference. If a majority of their players want a change made - Mojang will listen.
What grounds do you have to just say "They won't do this" what evidence do you have to support that theory? They've made changes in the past based on player desires why can't this happen as well? It's very possible and very likely as according to the recent snapshop some minor terrain generation tweaks were made, how do you explain that one?
Could also fix this issue by introducing new biomes.
Extreme Mountains
Extreme Mountain Jungle
Extreme Mountain Tundra
Terramorphic (This one would have extreme overhangs)
I can second that!
I will +1 you tomorrow. I've reached my quota.. again ;( I seem to always be running out of those darned things lol. But yeah I like this idea I think new biomes would add a little more variety, but the majority of the problems lies in the abundance of mineshafts and caves and the lack of height variation in biomes other then extreme hills.
Holy **** vechs posted! (hes a supporter too now?)
Vechs.. Why don`t you make a video about this, maybe we can get Mojangs attention then? That would be amazing.
I wish I knew who Vechs was, but now that he's supporting I'll have to check out his vids.
but before then we didnt have giant lively jungles or the magnificent pyramids and yes the mountains were nice but minecraft has to change or else it will get boring the swamps could be better but think of it like this if minecraft didnt advance or "evolve" then it would lose its players very quikly so if you get my point minecraft would not be played anymore so think of it that way
Please read the entire thread before posting, thanks

You know how games like FPS's or RPG's are either generic or suck, yet people buy them anways? Well that's kinda because they 1. want new skills 2. want more guns 3. want better graphics. With minecraft, all the features like animal breeding, spawner eggs, fire charges, nether dungeons, and so much more had urged players onward through the updates. The terrain was just a sub-product of that change. If you would change the terrain generation to awesome and keep all the stuff in minecraft now, it would be even better. So don't say that it's "ok" just because we have more stuff. Say someone in MC Donald's spilled hot coffee over your suit for your interview with the CEO of a company. Would it be ok for them to offer you a lifetime supply of Apple Dippers or some of their other crap food so you wouldn't sue?
That's just a product of the pre-release. It happened in previous snapshots for different versions. It's a new mode as well, so it'll have some glitches.
This world generation would be fine if there was some variation, anything at all... though I have been seeing a few scarce 1.7.3-like formations in forests in the snapshot lately.
Seriously, if some people like the realistic, and some like the extreme, make that a map type! It satisfies everyone, and if you get bored of one, go to the other. Default and superflat are not that exciting. Maybe default can be the current (i mean current as in, the current way of generation for any update. This will change over time), Extreme can be that weird generation, realistic can be the one we have now, superflat stays the same, and then maybe we could even have like a 1.7 option, that actually allows you to get seeds like glacier again w/o downloading them. But that was just a possibility, for the 1.7. The extreme and realistic really should be map types, so everyone is happy. 'Cept those pessimists.

In my opinion, what we have now isn't realistic. It's boring.
Reality can have places that look boring and places that look great and majestic. Minecraft, at the moment, only has the boring part. The old Minecraft had the boring and the majestic but the biomes crumpled everywhere made everything far too unrealistic. We need something new if we want a "realistic".

Actually, I'll see that within 10 minutes of gameplay in every world. Plus caves are shitty and forcibly infinite.

As for the 1.7 maps you want to play on you may use this as an alternative until Mojang tweaks the map generation. (Which will happen btw
