If youre so upset about the new terrain generation then download mc nostalgia and stop spamming the forums.
I am not "spamming the forum" I am simply stating how I feel about a matter that many other minecrafters also feel passionately about. Nostalgia is something that must be downloaded and doesn't come with the current version of Minecraft - nor does it offer the post 1.8 features that we would like implemented into the game. Personally I think 1.7 maps weren't the best, I just likes how they had diversity and variation in their land formation. I also liked their height variation for every biome, not just one, and how caves were actually something rewarding to find.

Thank you! I really am not meaning to sound like a jerk at all. I really don't want people to dislike me as I am actually a very calm, collected and kind person. It's just when I feel this passionately about something and want something to change for the better I get really enthusiastic about it. I apologize to anyone who I have offended in this thread I really did not mean to it is all completely 100% calm. I may have been sarcastic a couple of times but it was never meant to be hostile. I am simply stating my opinion as are others on here.
I guess I should apologize to Lassen personally although I highly doubt he is even still active in this thread but what I said to him I guess was a bit harsh. But it would still be awesome to get the seed to his map so that I may check out those land marks for myself. That would be more convincing to me then just "hey look what I found" anyone could world edit and take some pics of it - but real proof is through seeing it for yourself and i am sorry I did not make that more clear.
So, let's all just start fresh and keep the opinions rolling and I'll try to be a little more unbiased and open-minded to the opposing side of the debate, but you're still gonna have one helluva time trying to convince me the 1.2.5 terrain gen isn't boring!
yeah and, as ace said, thats all they are. extreme hills. nothing more.
I guess the key point is that the updates are winding back the terrain smoothing. On the Mojang blog Notch discussed the use of a Perlin Noise map, what it does, and how in late 2011 he tweaked the filter to get rid of anomolies like floating blocks (and overhangs, islands, loopy arches, wind swept canyons were all a casualty of this).
12w21b now shows evidence this has been undone. I chose a convenient example in the screenshots above for seed 3456, however I suggest you roll out your own seeds and see what this effect is on terrain you are familiar with. Here's another:
My advice is that if you approve of the direction the changes are taking and do actually care about influencing the development of the next release you should probably let the Mojangs know they are heading in the right direction.
You should make a poll for this. Anyway, i only got the game at 1.2.3. T_T i never got to see the old seeds. I totally agree with this post, and that one quote about the generation, with the terrain THEN biomes, i totally agree with!!!!! Add me to the support list!!!!!

To this I reply: "You are unworthy of proof because your argument is lame." Paraphrased from Ace, 2012.
Also, I understand how the forums work, but I really don't care if you trust me or not.
P.S. Thanks for getting my back SantaPig.
EDIT:
Thanks for the apology Shreders. In light of that, I will explain to you your best shot of checking out my world.
The seed I originally used was 'pikku'. I was hesitant to give it out because I wanted my world to be the only one like it on the Internets, but, as of the conversion to Anvil, that seed no longer generates the same terrain so I guess it's safe.
Now I forget if I discovered that island pre- or post-Anvil so there's a chance that using that seed, if you head out 750ish east and 550ish north from 0,0 you can maybe find the island.
Well you always had the option of private messaging it to me as I have no reason to send it out to everyone! It would have been safe with me And I don't expect you to care whether or not I trust you but that's just how things work in this kind of thread. Proof can't lie in screenshots alone (and I guess I'm a bit hypocritical saying that as the only proof I present in the original post is videos of screenshots.. but then again the screenshots in that post do provide seeds.. so maybe I'm not so hypocritical and need to stop rambling on..). In these types of threads seeds are essential as obviously opposing forces can't just "Take their word for it"
Nevertheless, I again take back the harsh things I said toward your posts as the screenshots were a nice little piece of land but I still believe the current terrain generator could use some tweaking for make things like that a little more diverse and a little more common.

There is already a poll on the "Tweaking the current map generation" in which nearly 1,500 have voted yes to making the change whereas 500 have voted no. So thus far, seems three quarters of Minecraft are wanting the new change implemented.

I see your point and I'm sure many others would stand by me in saying that we partly approve this new change. The above is somthing similar to what we want to see, just on a larger drastic scale. And a few of those landscapes could be cleaned up a bit as it just looks like some land was mashed up and cut into little pieces
oh. Ok, then. I may vote yes later. I think that maybe 1.8 maps could be chosen as a map type. Like, if you chose that as a map type and type in like glacier or something, you can actually get taht map. Then, you can also chose "realistic maps" for the ones we have now, 1.8 maps would be called "Extreme maps" and there would still be superflat, and i hope caveworld (look it up) and stuff. That a good idea? It satisfies both sides.

I don't see why you throw people who want 1.7 terrain under the bus just to keep the people who don't want change on your side. I'm nostalgic about 1.7 terrain, but I still know for a fact that it is better. Saying 1.7 terrain is the last thing you want is a stretch too, since 1.7 has basically everything you are asking for in this thread. Just look at this picture and tell me it's not awesome: http://boingboing.net/2011/04/01/minecraft-seeds.html
So basically, I am the guy who wants floating **** that looks amazing like that. I'm not one to make outrageous demands, though, so I respect small changes. Awesome thread. Also green grass please.
I honestly, 10000000% agree. I still look for certain landscapes, but is now much more difficult due to the terrain generation. It's a lot harder for me to settle finding a great spot, instead of taking refuge in a village or a place I just dislike.
While I would never trade in biomes for the crazy jagged terrain everyone seems to love so much, I would very much like to see some unpredictable qualities to the seeds. I do sort of feel as if I'm just chugging along at different carts in the same old train.
But who knows? Maybe this is an issue of a silent majority in support of post-1.7.3 landscapes.
Ok, then here Agos on the test thing, and here's few short stories. 1:one reason I don't like the new generator is because of th caves. It's like mojang built minecraft assuming you'd spend 95% of ur time under ground! 2:why I hate the new seeds is u can spend an hour typing in numbers, and have no Luck on a place yo build ur house. And once I did just that.3:I've been hiking a lot, and and I've seen from deserts in Arizona to waterfalls in California. There was a lot of verity. Theres none of that in the new genrator4: intoo, nearly cried when compared the two seed videos!

I am not quick to throw players who want the 1.7 terrain under the bus. If that is your opinion that is your opinion and I never disagreed with such players. I agree with them, honestly, but to a certain degree. There are some features and aspects of the 1.7 terrain that I would love to see in the current terrain gen, and others I would absolutely despise! I do not mind if you all think your yourselves, and I do nothing to "keep people on my side" because in all honesty, I could care less what anyone else thinks of me or my opinion - but I will speak them freely as this (correct me if I'm wrong) is what the forums are for!
EDIT ----
I updated the original post for more clarity! I hope this clears things up!

i agree with this cause 100% before 1.8 i played minecraft heaps but now i hardly ever play it, the terrain just seems so boring and realistic. i thought minecraft was a fantasy game but theres no fantasy in current terrain. i play games to get away from my boring repetative life not to be reminded of it. also under the supports there should be a list of all the supporters IMHO
