The addition of biomes to the games has brought good things, but it screwed up all the terrain variety, since in each biome there are unique characteristincs, which didn't use to happen where biomes weren't added. when there weren't biomes, you could be ina nice beach, walk a bit and you suddenly enter a forest, walk a bit more, and you were in a mountain, it was for me more realistic in terms that, in real world, biomes are not like minecraft's, in real world, except for beaches, deserts and big forests, there are areas where you can see a a lot of different elements next to each other.
You say it like there were no biomes before.

I actually hope that they will be updated, so people will stop ignoring this issue.
you mean you want xbox and portable to be updated to lousy pc gen so there is no alternate and players will all demand the old gen giving us what we want?

Not restore old generator, but improve new one instead. Many people think about xbox version as solution, ignoring original version issues.

You all will get mad, we will get more supporters, and hopefully because of that it will be more noticeable to Mojang.
Mojang has started to pick up on these things. We have beaches, although they're expansive and downright strange. We have biomes like Forest Hills and Ice Mountains. What we need are tweaks to the height of the ground regardless of the biome.
One thing: if you get the better terrain thing happening, make sure there are still large flat areas, because sometimes you want to build in a plain unobstructed by mountains.
The terrain generation is one of the reasons I use MCNostalgia. Even though I got the game in 1.2.5, it still makes me feel nostalgic. The idea of the undescribable mountains like in the Glacier seed is just so unrealistic. Realistic terrain is so..... boring. Minecraft was never meant to be realistic, even though Notch added hunger to make the game more realistic. (And then added potions and magic in the next update..... Weird.) I fully support the idea of bringing back the old terrain.
Every time I start a thread like this, everyone says "use mcnostalgia, dumbass"
Other people post the exact same ideas and get 300 likes.
The universe hates me.
Sorry for your unfortunate situation, but this just goes to show how common of a problem this is if you're creating your own thread about it, then you also see the problem with the current generator? So I assume we have your support?

Yes, with this idea we want plains biomes to stay with the generator and still be one biome in and of itself so that players who, like you said, enjoy building unobstructed will still be satisfied. It's not like we want extreme hills spammed to every corner of the map, just more variety that's all.

i support you, i never really played before 1.8 but i have one sweet mod that allows me to spawn beta and alpha worlds and they are SO much cooler than the crap worlds today. i support you all the way....
I have watched minecraft vids for a few years, and less than a year ago was allowed to get the game (I'm 14), and some of the first vids I watched were by a guy named Caliform. He started his series in the very last version of alpha, and continued until just before the full release. I always loved how he made the videos, but the best part of all was the awsome sets of mountians with overhangs bigger than the mountian itself.
When I finally got the game, I was only half through his series, and, having watched almost no other videos of minecraft, I was sure worlds generated the same way. After getting the game, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get any place near as cool as his world. I would love to join in a group trying to re-obtain some old-world generation.
The other reason I mention Caliform is because I believe his videos (mostly third and second to last seasons) show anyone who may remain unconvinced of the greatness of the old stuctures. Please add me to list of supporters, and please show the link to Caliform's videos somewhere that everyone can find it please.
P.S. Sorry for the long post.

OT: I love that "Pueblo 2.0" he made inside that weird looking overhang. Makes me want to play Minecraft all night. Too bad I have summer homework to do.
xealm, what's the nature of the noise algorithm? Does it insert random pockets in the terrain, or does it push land up to make gaps, or what? I'm thinking about how to make different parts blend in, so you can control the terrain for swamps or villages or other features.

Neither. It's just Perlin noise, so generator receives ready array of doubles, then looks to each one, if it's >0.0D, sets byte in other array (That will be used as chunk blocks) to stone id, otherwise air (0). Then all air blocks below sea level get replaced with water.
I agree, the terrain is boring, but i do find some interesting caves and landscapes sometimes.
I remember in late 1.6, my friend began playing before me(i had a bad pc) and used to gather some supplies and move out every few weeks.

We never said interesting landscapes are nonexistent And some of the caves in the current gen are kind neat, especially the ones that end.
