this is the worst bad seed topic I have seen yet. more than half of minecraft loves the current biomes and world gen. this is an opinion not a fact. I love the world gen and all the awesome mountains. if you think minecraft should have better biomes either make a mod or quit minecraft. I see your reasons but the only one that I understand completely is more trees on mountains and more barely touching flouting islands. I think mojang is doing it's best with the world gen. also, minecraft is a sandbox game and it is supposed to be simple and imaginative. they are working on big things for minecraft and at the current time they wont or cant do a thing about the world gen. what if mojang likes the world gen though. I like it and I bet the only reson this topic has supporters is because the people who love the world gen wouldnt even think about coming here
Since Exalm pretty much shut this down factually I'll go ahead and defend myself as the OP.
1. I never said the post wasn't opinionated. It, like any other suggestion on this forum, is an opinion. This I agree with and that's why we are open to disagreement with factual evidence.
2. I highly doubt you are an employee of Mojang so who are you, other than another Minecraft players, to say that they can't and won't change the terrain generation? Hell, in 1.3.1 there were terrain "improvements" so obviously Mojang is making terrain generation a priority or it wouldn't have been altered (negatively or positively.. (opinionated)) during any major Minecraft update.
3. As for the supporter thing; we've had plenty of disagreeing posts on this thread so you are incorrect in that assumption. The reason we have so many supporters is because the majority of people who do see this thread agree that the current terrain is boring (and yes, I am aware that this is an opinion)
So Mojang could make structure-spawning simple enough for themselves! Duh.
And that still doesn't work properly.
They should have made a flat biome for structures, not a mostly-kind-of-flat world with stupid mountains. You don't wreck an entire world for the sake of a single terrain feature. That's just dumb.

Well, they're professionals... they should make it so they can adapt to the bumpy terrain.
At first I didnt believe you even though i read the whole first post. Then i went from my new server to the world i made in Alpha years ago that i saved, and i was on top of a snowy mountain overlooking a valley where a pond was. Another world was where i had made a cathedral type base that was mostly natural into the side of a snowy mountain with both a gravel beach and a sand beach not 50 blocks away. I had loved exploring the natural terrain and seeing the randomness of it with a huge high point overlooking the ocean and other incredible features.
Bring back the natural diversity of terrain generation! Even in Reality, there are snowy mountains, glaciers and other great terrain in the world.
I think that they should just add a new World Generation type called Classic where they use the 1.7 terrain generation. Also, has Mojang seen this yet?

"You are the %s person to suggest this.", (rand.nextInt(499)+500)+"th"
No, there was not a character limit in Beta. I have proved it.
I tried using "Gold For Sure or i will kick your ass" seed, which could be written entirely in 1.7.3 before hunger bar was added i whink, then in full release 1.3.2 you can only write "Gold For sure or i will kic" thats at least, when i tried using that seed now in the actual version, it didnt let me put more than that, so yes, it sucks.
Oh. Really? Then I will remove it for mod.
Anyway, seed is long int, so min seed is 9223372036854775808 and max seed is 9223372036854775807.
If you enter non-digit string, it uses hash of that string as seed, if number, it uses it as is, if empty, generates a random number (nextLong()) by random generator which uses current millisec as seed.
I see how mojang cares more about adding stupid things like plant pots instead of changing the terrain generator to one as good as the oold one...
they used to be waterfalls, lakes surrounded by mountains with huge caves, animals, forests, just in a few chunks, and now you use the same seed and you get the same crappy flat land as everytime you generate a new map now. I used to love starting new maps just to see what kind of beauty i had to play in, but now, they look all the same, even if you put Gargamel, Im prett sure the map will suck, seeds are useless. Seeds have a character limit now.
I used to go through hundreds of seeds when creating a new world because I wanted to find the optimal terrain for myself. Now that there's no more possibilities, I can't even go seed hunting anymore.
Excellent post, good sir! You have my full support in this. You mentioned that they say the 1.8 update added "realism." Well, realism isn't exactly what I'm looking for in Minecraft. I actually love the addition of large biomes. Stretching deserts and tundras and what not add to the experience, but I also want to play to get away from the real world for a bit. I want to see some things that you may not see (or rarely) in real-life terrain.
I like the diversity of biomes. I like relatively flat areas with lots of holes and caves. You still can have extreme hills in any biome. You can have trees on top of hills. But I agree it would be good to make those hills more extreme, and more common. And change the proportions so the boring ice plains isn't so huge and boring. Let's have more of the other stuff instead. And better hills. The space is there now, let's even make some rare hills taller like to y180.

You can't have biome in a biome. Extreme hills are biome, so you can't have them elsewhere.
X-hills are kind of islands. They use island code that make them appear as small dots in parent biome.
Normal mountains don't generate at all. That noise generator is there, but it's not used.

Incorrect, Exalm. They already do have biomes within biomes. Some jungle biomes have Extreme Hills sections for example.

Not just land. I hate the splotchy underwater beds.
