This is illogical and simply untrue. You and some may perceive the terrain as generally being so dreadfully bland that you don't hold a want for seeds, but this doesn't intrinsically eliminate their value because they still hold a purpose. There are many people who still share seeds for legitimate reasons. So no, seeds are not useless now, and the title was misleading because I first thought they ( the seeds) were broken -- or something else had happened to break or ruin them. Instead, it was just some guys opinion, which is fine, but again it was misleading.
People share seeds for structure generation, and the rare time the biome that they actually want being the spawn. Not very useful, really, no fun mountainous terrain, no gravel beaches...

But this simply isn't always the case. In 1.2.5 I've used a seed before because I thought it looked interesting. I've seen other people make threads and posts about this too. As well, your stated reason still deliver a value.
People, your opinions and personal experiences do not lead reality.

With 1.8/later generators I use seeds only for testing accuracy in mod generation. I didn't find even one interestng seed, terrain is same boring everywhere.

I've tried various generators, and I keep going back to the vanilla minecraft... because of the patches, snapshots, everytime, I have to stop playing if I don't want those ugly borders and I might get them still.. so whats the point?
I want to find this perfect map where I can build all of my projects I have in my head... A tree house in an extreme hills jungle, some underwater complex around an archipelago, hilly forests, or even a mix of rolling hills and extreme hills, nice lakes inside those forests, with maybe a small island big enough for a huge tree or a house, tower, having nice long rivers that flows down, less of those small pools that we see everywhere, huge breath-taking waterfalls... I could go on, I watched that pre 1.8 video and I started remembering all those awesome seeds I used to play on... build on.
I want to have a continental kind of map, where those big land masses have an end with multiple biomes... The large biomes option is a step in the right direction (I hated being able to see tundra/taiga/desert/plains biomes and whatsoever all around me when standing in the middle of a nice jungle biome)
So far my only option is to play custom maps, Vechs is working on an extreme hills jungle and it just simply looks amazing... however those amazing builders are too rare
EDIT: I'm going to add to this post instead of reposting.. The other thing that bugs me a lot about this terrain generator is the endless cave system that is just a giant maze... a 20 minutes trip can easily net me 4-5 stacks of coal and one or two of iron, including some diamonds in the process... I can't find a nice little area without having dozens of cave entrances everywhere around the area, even mining is boring now... I'm sick of having ravines cutting through ravines and more ravines and look, 3 more! Minecraft's underground is worse than a swiss cheese now, these features should be much more rare!
I've been away from minecraft for several months. Came back to poke around a bit, and realized how bloody boring the landscape is. The problem I *used* to have was getting sucked into perma-exploring. The landscape was so gorgeous that I couldn't settle on where to settle! I was always looking for my next big find. Cut to me, landscape junkie. Eventually I'd come across something so spectacular that I'd have to build my house there.
I want this problem again. PLEASE.
Now the only reason I explore is to find a sheep for wool. The Extreme(ly treeless) Hills just make me sad. I feel like I have to go all Johhny Appleseed on their barren bodies just to get them close to what they used to be.
Today's world generation, makes me want to puke. It honestly needs more variety, and a better, more spectacular landscape. I remember when I spent hours searching for the right place to build a house because I see more and more that just wows me when I see it! Now I search for hours to find the right place because the landscape, is absolute rubbish. And as for caves, they used to be much harder to find, and when you found one, it didn't go on for long. Yesterday, diamonds were hard to get. Today, it's the oddities that villagers ask for in trade, that are hard to get. I support this post 100%.
I sir, shall support you.
Even though I've never experienced 1.7 or earlier (I got Minecraft in 1.8), I will heartily agree that the landscape gets pretty repetitive, boring, drab, etc.
I must say, there are not as many magnifisant land forms anymore, I do miss floating islands. :/ However, there are some land forms that spawn in 1.2.5 but, however, they are quite rare. (thought that sorta makes them more special) I do like a little flat land though sometimes, for villages and castles, I think there should be a choice based off of what you select in the world creation menu, so if you want to build a castle on flat land, then a wizards tower on a cliff that overhangs a great sea, 100 blocks from eachother, then you should, that would be exellent, then the player can control how the world spawns, without mods!
Just my personal opinion,
Super Templar
I have a pretty cool seed,I dunno if it'll work in 1.3 but here it is:
The seed: 1234568907 What's in this seed? You spawn on top of a big mountain,to your right is a unique shaped cliff,to your left is a sand mountain and right behind you is a giant hole with some lava and a lot of caves. I thought I'd share this, because it is certainly unique to me.

Big mountain is from the EH biome. Not like I haven't seen that before. Nothing is unique there.
Sand mountain is from DesertHills. We need height variation to exist outside of specific biomes.
Giant hole is cool, but is a product of the EH biome.
Lot of caves? We need less caves.
The fourth post busted the topic title months ago. It's very misleading.
Sorry to bust your bubble, but no the title is not misleading. I don't think I have to repeat myself multiple times to people who are too lazy to read the many many responses I had to this ignorant comment all throughout this thread. Sorry to say, but the title could be "Pandas Are Red" but regardless, the thread is still a work in itself. A title doesn't have to be EXACTLY what the thread is about. It could have absolutely nothing to do with the thread at all it's just an attention grabber and if you're honestly that butthurt over it, it really doesn't matter. You didn't lose sleep over it, it didn't inconvenience you in any way, it didn't stop you from performing your day to day routine, did it? No. That being said, in all honesty who really gives a ****? Its not that big of a deal people there's more important stuff to worry about in the world then whether or not my title is misleading. It's meant to be an attention grabber, that's all. Nothing more. And apparently it worked because you're in here posting on my thread, are you not?
I'm gonna go ahead and support this. I really enjoyed the older terrain generation because of the crazy landsapes and it seems like with every update after 1.7 things got rounder and smoother and more boring. I can see the idea of wanting to make a crazy land structure a rare treat, but when I play I find myself not wanting that to be the case. There's very little reason to explore. Temples are cool but they are all the same, they don't replace finding rediculous, unique cliffs and overhangs. The plain terrain generator removes the need to come up with more interesting builds that used to be required to hold all of your structures together. We don't play video games like minecraft for realism. We play them to escape reality.

In any case, the reason I no longer have access to the world I described is because it was on a friend's computer, not mine.

Nice work Mojangstas.
**** the X-hills biomes. They make all of the height changes spammed together.
