I have never created a world that made my jaw drop in amazement. Most if not all of the worlds I create have the same look to them: mostly flat with some hills, and occasionally some small mountains. I have gotten sick of the same old terrain to the point where I just don't play much anymore. If this problem is fixed it would make every new world created a whole new experience.
I've seen the old terrain, and it's better than our current terrain, but have to admit you can't simply make each structure vary from the next just because it looks boring.
It's okay to have a boring patch of terrain once in a while. What's not okay is to have the entire world made out of boring cookie-cutter terrain, where every mountain forms in pretty much exactly the same way. The hills biomes are the source of that cookie-cutter look, because all the extreme heights are now crammed into certain biomes (the hills biomes) instead of being distributed more randomly across the world.
Plus whenever I don't get a "feeling" from the terrain, and for say you had a jungle biome, and one part is high and one is low, it's kind of supposed to be like that. Better terrain would be nice, but what would the point be?
Terrain isn't just a matter of having high and low areas, but how those areas interact with one another. You used to be able to have all sorts of interesting 'shapes' to the terrain due to the crazy way things generated. Things are just so orderly and boring now since everything that isn't a huge mountain is flat. You don't get any randomly rough terrain anymore.
Most people don't even go anywhere beyond their house in singleplayer and multiplayer worlds, so the varies of land wouldn't matter. Seeds like gargamel and glacier truly showed the way the terrain SHOULD be, but I l'd much rather have genuine structures being generally rare.
Maybe that's because the terrain is so repetitive now. There used to be a reason to search the world to try to find an interesting place for a base, but now once you've seen a very small portion of the world (or any world for that matter) you've seen it all.
It is. I'm not even going to argue with you. You have to understand to take some negative opinions, and this is one right here.
No it's not. And that's our opinion. Enough said.
I respect your opinion as well and if you don't agree then provide some factual evidence against our cause. Otherwise your post is technically considered spam.

I completely agree with this, back when I discovered the game I could find overhangs and huge landforms surrounded by flat land and forest all over the map... not just in a repetitive extreme hills biome. Beaches were beaches instead of peices of sand on the edge of a steep hill. I loved the variety, gravel beaches, flat land sorrounded by huge mountains, huge caverns(not ravines). I like the 1.8+ features but the terrain is dull and repetitive. I find no variety in servers so nearly all the builds have the same kind of style... Please add me to your supporters list I love the idea your putting across and think it should be thoroughly looked at by Jeb and the rest of the team
Before I say anything, remember that this is my opinion. You may agree, but you are also free to DISagree. However, do not be rude, or I will look at you as an idiot. Be civil.
That was a beautiful speech, but it's just that. A speech. I disagree in many ways. Overhangs, cliffs, and gigantic caves and ravines are only a few things I've seen. Once, I discovered a lava fall... Above ground... Coming out of a weirdly shaped structure that was only a small part of a breathtaking mountain. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to that world, but it was incredible.
Now, remember that I have not witnessed the Minecraft you speak of. I've only had it for a few months. So I may be a bit jaded.
That's all. Thank you for reading, and be civil if you reply. No "omg you suck and r ignorant". None of that stupidity I see too often on YouTube. Please, just be constructive.

Anyone disagreeing is free to post interesting new generation screenshots (With seeds/coordinates, of course) to prove that we all are wrong.

I see what you mean and they are some good mountains out their but they are rear and some caves are endless and maze like , mountains are compressed into a few biomes, most being lifeless(Extreme Hills), rear(Tundra), unappealing(Extreme Hills), or way too common(Jungles).

More like all caves are endless and maze-like. I wouldn't mind if some caves were like this, but seeing it like this all the time is damn annoying.
while i was never on before the official 1.0.0 release i do have to say that i have to agree that the minecraft world gen is incredibly flat and swiss cheesed with caves. i want a mountain range stretching up to the world height limit and land that i can dig a big square out of without having to patch holes. and i would preffer this in all the biomes too. a plateu in a plains biome or a desert mountain range. you have my full support!
Ok, Let me toss a couple of screenshots at you, and you tell me what you think:
That's a plains. Left side is extreme hills, and as soon as it switches to plains, it drops down. The water at the right is at Y=64. But that big hump out of nowhere in the middle?
===
Even better. This was taken with a wider FOV.
That's swamplands in the dark grass, and shallow water. Desert, etc. And the big green flat area, with a giant hill? With the big dry ravine running through it? Ocean.
===
This does not include the Mushroom island hill that looks like Extreme Hills.
===
So how do I get those? I use "Mystcraft" -- http://www.minecraft...ystcraft-09100. Never mind the original idea behind it -- Mystcraft is looking to be the best general "create customized dimensions with unusual terrain" mod.
Those were made with a medium biome controller, and a list of the "standard" biomes with none of the border, technical, or ice-variant biomes.
I won't say that Vanilla is not lacking -- I agree that it is. A lot of what you want now can be done with mods.

Just to let you know, you can sort-of make that in Mystcraft also -- high flat lands, with no caves, and all the biome types. But if you actually want hills, then you'll have normal Y=64 height base.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?

Why do we not use mods?
Mods are a temporary fix to a long-term problem. Most of the terrain altering mods out there do not even live up to the standards that are put forth in this thread. They all are attempts to bring back 1.7 map generation into the current terrain. If you're asking Isn't this what we want? No, and this means that you did not read the full thread. So please go back, re-read the thread, and then re-post.
What we want done to the terrain is have it tweaked to add more height variety per biome. We want the structures and everything that was added since 1.8 except for the flat, dull, boring land. Mods do not fix this as they create ugly jumbled up and chewed up land masses all over the place (Which those types of land masses can also be neat if harnessed and used correctly by mojang.)
Did not know that? Re-read the thread, and re-post.
So for those of you who keep coming on here advertising different mods that we can use: 45 people have mentioned the same thing before you: so do not bother as it will not silence us. We feel the current map generation needs to be altered to satisfy all of Mojangs player base not just 25% (and yes those numbers are accurate .. the poll for this change is at 75% yes and 25% no) Did not know that? Simple.. Re-read the thread, and then re-post.

It's not misleading at all. The terrain has become so repetitive that there is no use of caring for which seed you use.
This is illogical and simply untrue. You and some may perceive the terrain as generally being so dreadfully bland that you don't hold a want for seeds, but this doesn't intrinsically eliminate their value because they still hold a purpose. There are many people who still share seeds for legitimate reasons. So no, seeds are not useless now, and the title was misleading because I first thought they ( the seeds) were broken -- or something else had happened to break or ruin them. Instead, it was just some guys opinion, which is fine, but again it was misleading.

Seed: Chris (in 1.2.5)
It has most everything you just asked for.
Dull EH, dull plains, boring forest, river with ugly splotches of sand.
Where are beaches?
Where are gravel beaches?
Where is the variety?
There are only mountains — 1 of 4 requested things.

You should too! Find it here; http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1648718-slime-blocksnew-method-of-trapping-mobs/
