Even where a beach should be, there's nothing but 5 fuqing sand blocs...
<sceenshot>
This is the thing that i hate most, the absolute lack of beaches, I miss old ones, please Jeb, put old beaches again, please!
It requires changing height of most biomes, as if you add beaches to current terrain, you will find giant wastelands in forests, taigas, plains, swamps etc, as they are too low...
Ive played minecraft since it was in alpha and the terrain generation got better with every update untill 1.8 Then it went poof and then it was the new flat and boring terrain.
Instead of making everything like this
They could add an "Advanced generation" option where the player gets to chose the varying hight settings and the rate of biomes/villages and other things.
Cause everyone likes different terrain and might want a flatter world and some might want worlds with overhangs and stuff
I personaly like the pre 1.8 gen though

I like this idea but many people including the OP and ChaosGardian don't exactly "love" it in other words they are very nutrual about the idea

This would work as a possible solution. But while the post above mine is biased, it's also pretty accurate. We're actually on the fence about this idea as we want everyone to enjoy the game equally. It could work, and either way I would be happy but it seems like a lot more coding and a lot more complicated for Mojang to try and do and we'd be perfectly satisfied if there was just a mixture of both. The varied land and the flat land to please both parties. An option would be nice, but I can't help but feel some way that it would cause seeds to actually become literally useless. Oh well, not really sure. Just want to see something happen that's all. I'm getting a bit antsy here I'm impatient by heart.
I totally agree, 90% the time I make a new survival world I spawn in a Jungle or in a Tundra biome. We could also use stuff like more realistic biome changes for example in one of my survival worlds I have an ice plains biome then if you take 3 steps you are in a desert biome, it makes no sense. Also, they need to lower the percentage of open caves in plains because most of the time there are like 6 cave mouths in the plains and it makes the land all chewed up and no way to make an underground base without hitting a cave.
I never played in pre 1.8 because I started playing in 1.2.4 but that video made me want a more diverse landscape. The only variation I ever see is in Extreme Hills biomes (which still are not that great) and cave systems (which are way to big). I totally agree that the terrain should be wildy generated. One more thing, I think islands in the ocean should be diverse. Right now they have trees, sugar cane, flowers and sometimes there is not even sand at the coast. (Which there should be since it IS an island.) The islands should taller because they usually only go up to y 70. I would like them to add different types of trees on them and overhangs, and they should actually make an island biome and not just name it an ocean biome!

Thank you all! This is what I have been thinking ever since 1.8 came out! I recently started playing actual survival and have became bored with all the biomes I have found. It makes me shed a tear when I think about the maps that made me fall in love with minecraft. I remember building my first house in the side of a mountain with a natural waterfall. Those were the days.
It's not just the generation I am sick of though, I also hate the new spawning system. Remember when you used to only be able to spawn on a sandblock? I used to love thinking that I had been washed a shore and must run inland to survive. It annoys me in most of the maps these days that I spawn on a freaking tree!
FINALLY, someone fully understands what I have wanted. The world has become BORING, FLAT, and DULL! I have played since Alpha, and things were great, now the world is flat and plain. I miss the old mega structures, and variety of landscape we use to get. Supported!
Isn't Dinnerbone part of the Minecraft Dev Team or was with bukkit idk. :)(I'm probly wrong on both)

Dinnerbone mostly does the technical code (IE: Redstone)

Problem solved?
And I do miss pre 1.8 generation. It was one of the best parts of minecraft, I can barely play now without it.
Count me in! For the past year terrain has been boring, bland and unexciting. I spent like 2 hours today looking for a cool overhang.

Please fix Minecraft Jeb!

I swear each seed is the same now, it feels like you spawn in the exact same world, but someplace else.
I support you, one hundred percent.
ONE. HUNDRED. PERCENT.
Also, Redyoshi101's idea for new generation is completely awesome- and it doesn't seem so very difficult to code, either.
Plus, this made me consider adding a photo to my signature.
I'm not gonna do it, but I considered it.
