I agree with this completely. Though the boring flat biomes are good for building houses on, in one of the last updates, mountain biomes got NERFED while all the other biomes got better (not! unless you include jungle). I mean, there are a FEW good seeds out there, but they're so hard to find amongst all the other seeds that are the same, it's nearly impossible. The random seeds are your best bet, and even then its rare you spawn somewhere beautiful. I have a world called PINEAPPLE and I spawned in a so-so valley, then only by editing what I had did it become nice, and I used TNT. Yes I was on creative, and had the snapshot and a friend helped. But still, the chances of that were probably one in one thousand. So yes, I support you and your great idea!
It seems they think we need more generated things. We don't! Sure it's nice to have more, but it isn't different from point A to point B. I have thought the same thing before I read this. they messed up 2 things. underground and above ground. The caves are way to common and huge. I want to be excited when I found one, not UGH ANOTHER ONE! Look at these 4 dungeons.
And gameplay has seriously changed. Minecraft is easier. There was only one world I made with epic terrain. That was the only world that was at least different. And finally,
Support! Your so very right! All the videos I've watched the seeds look the same, little oceans, small hills, little valleys, short caves and that sort of thing. Larger oceans, deathly heights, giant jungles that have the tallest of trees would be a nice addition. Thank you for suggesting this!
I know when you came up with this idea, you were drunk in a bar half naked. You come up with this idea and some how you remember it. Justin Beber comes to your home and randomly reads your mind. JB takes out a chiv and puts it up to your neck treating you so you make this post. And then you got drunk agin and slaped a stupid title on it. RRRAAAGGGEEE! I've seen Fing pyramids with ryvines inside them with like 100 iron in them with gold and diamonds. Cracks in the earth, amazing hills, and mountains. YOU ARE WRONG SIR.
I would like to see the pictures of these amazing seeds. No need to immaturely criticize. If you want to explain to me why the thread is incorrect then please have a little more respect then this.
So then the title should still be more like: Terrain seeds have become useless and heres
By that the title should still be more like "Terrain Seeds have Become Useless and Here's Why". Otherwise it still misleads to make people think you mean they were always useless. And I'm talking if haven't actually read your thread yet and have only seen the title.
Only players who take the title in a literal sense would think that the thread means seeds have always been useless. Honestly, there is no reason for everyone to bicker about the title and how it is "misleading" This isn't youtube, do not rant about the title. Try to keep the thread on topic if you do not think the title fits the thread and it isn't the kind of place you'd normally post, there is a back arrow at the top of your browser. That's a lot easier then us bickering back and forth. Apparently I can't win for losing anyway as no matter what I change the title to some other nit picker comes along and finds something else wrong with it
Well, I find this hard to believe, but Shreaders, I started playing on your Minecraft server a few days ago, but before I even joined I already knew ya (on account of these forums). What a coincidence, too, because I didn't find out about MineBomb on this forum, I found out about it on another server. Weird coincidence to be sure.
Anyways, I fully support this and hope it is implemented soon.
Good to have you on the server, and astounded to have your support
What does this REMOTELY have to do with seeds? Any randomizer function has a seed. If you want terrain to be random, it must have an input seed.
What you are whining about is HOW the terrain generator runs off of the seed.
What does your post remotely have to do with this thread? The thread is about randomizing height variation (specifically the y variation)in all biomes. We are not saying seeds do nothing when they are put in ,and you do not have to take the title in a literal sense. What we mean is there is infinitesimal variation in the y axis in MC map generation, and we would like that to vary more then it already does in all biomes except plains and swamps (for obvious reasons). The title wasn't meant in a literal sense it's only an attention grabber
I understand your position...but frankly, I hope they don't listen. I want MORE realistic terrain, not more random terrain. But, I don't want everyone to be stuck with my kind of world, so I don't really think they should make it more realistic either.
The one thing I CAN agree on, is fewer caves that don't interconnect so much and effectively go on forever. The cave system under my house is so extensive I've barely explored half of it...AND it's attached to a ravine with two abandoned mine shafts and a stronghold at the far end. It's just too much...I have things I want to do in addition to spelunking, after all.
Actually, I think what I'd like most to see is a world generator that can handle some of the physics mods people have tried to come up with. There are complaints-a-plenty about them, but the truth is, the world generators are the problem, not the mods. They can't account for block placement when the blocks don't all float anymore, and so it seriously screws worlds up. Not sure how that would work though, so not getting my hopes up.

Still, there will be hints of realism in some parts in the terrain. In addition, there will be unrealistic parts of the terrain. If an unrealistic-terrain person finds realistic terrain, he can ignore it explore for unrealistic terrain. Vice versa to the people who enjoy realistic terrain. In this case, everyone is happy and no one needs to be a terrain-nazi.
And the reason seeds would be considered pointless is because every map in minecraft today is pretty much the exact same thing. They are repetitive, dull, flat, boring. It's the same nonsense no matter what kind of map you load and therefore: seeds are pointless. millions of different seeds: same map.

I agree, even though I do spend a lot of time mining, so the above groud part doesn't effect me as much, I still like to have a nice area to look at while on the surface. When I am undergound, I enjoy tons of varing sizes of cavs, it makes caves better finds. I rember in my 1st ever minectaft world (about a yoear ago) I mod a nice medium sized cave an turned to a safe area where I could get lava and obsidian (it was down around layer 10) now, I can even find the end of the caves I find, and I end up using HUNDREDS of torches to light it all up. It used to be, that I could have an enjoyable time having to run down into my mines for iron, now I wind up with so much, I can built houses with it, or have it fill up chest after chest. Mineshafts are way to common, I find them while just digging a strait hole. I am to the point where I could care less about entering a mineshaft if I see one.
I support this. I remember playing 1.8, it had great land structures, and I think if you would bring terrain generation combined with minecraft now, it would make a great game, complete support. COMPLETE SUPPORT
Honestly if the people at Mojang could get awesome terrain generation in the X-Box version how hard would it be to add it to the PC version -.-

Why don`t we just all tweet Jeb. May sound very Dumb. BUT He sees almost all the tweets. I tweeted him about 20 times and 3 of them were responded. So If we just copy the first page link. Start tweeting him. he will at somepoint drive crazy and admit on Twitter where everyone sees it. and then 1.3 will be awesome. I know I know. Just do it!
I really didn't remember how epic 1.7 terrain was. Giant floating islands with sand hanging off, pits full of gravel, small caves, I never thought of it, but 1.8 onward terrain got really dull. All I ever see is snow biomes, jungles, deserts, and useless plain. Every cave, abandoned mine, and ravine is gigantic, which made mining a real cave-finding game rather than hours of strip mining. giant caves that span chunks filled with diamonds and iron just break the game. 1.7 below had small caverns that had maybe to veins in them. Also, mountains just got ruined. Now they're easy-climbing, useless hills. I had a MASSIVE mountain once which had resources like coal and iron on the sides. Now every 'mountain' I see is a nerfed, crappy realism hill that had no excitement. They really need to abandon this new terrain generator and go back. Also, the shaders, my god. Everything looks gray and dark green. I liked the light-green, cartoony feel of leaves and grass. Also, new wooden planks. Just WHY. Really ugly, easy to play minecraft with nothing to explore isn't worth it for a feel of a 'realistic' world.
And gameplay has seriously changed. Minecraft is easier. There was only one world I made with epic terrain. That was the only world that was at least different. And finally,

First off no one said we want seeds gone
also if that seed is a jungle, tundra or extremehills then dont bother mentioning it

Exactly how dull and horrible the terrain has become;
even worse, another shot containing a less interesting area of the same map.

Then look at this video (which was in the first post) showing off all of those wonderfully bizarre locations for those epic seeds. What happened?
