I loved the terrain generation from 1.8.1. I have my survival world in a extreme mountains biome, but then when 1.0 came out, I was stuck with a icy mountains. But the point is, 1.8.1 was my favorite for terrain generation.

What he's saying is that because biomes are so dull and boring that a biome would look exactly like another biome of its kind in other words that if you seen 1 plain you seen every plain if you seen 1 jungle you've seen every jungle if you've seen 1 forest you've seen every forest
As for the Extremehills they are all fine and dandy but they are dull and nothing compaired to the epic mountains back in 1.7.3 and before they also ruined the height varriation sence mountains only spawn in 3 biomes out of 10 nowadays which sort of sucks
If you look at the landscapes way back in Beta and Alpha, there were no villages, abandoned mines, or any other natural structures (except Dungeons.) And when seeds were implemented in one beta update, people would use it to find amazing, unpredictable landscapes. But since the 1.8 update, a lot of things changed including the way how landscapes are generated, killing all the old seeds.
Now most of the landscape is just dull and there aren't those awesome landscapes anymore.
I support this! I'd love more interesting landscapes. I've never seen the old generator for myself but I know for a fact nearly all landmasses look alike if you explore enough. At the very least more sub-biomes should be added to the game to shake up the landscape a bit. Like waterfalls and lava falls (not just one little block sized fall i mean at least ten blocks in width), small oasis patches in deserts, and definitely the large unpredictable mountains in most biomes.
I agree with this entire topic. I joined minecraft in the good old days of Beta 1.3. The terrain generation back then was amazing. I was lucky enough to get an amazing cliff right next to me on my first ever world. I made myself a great base there. Now the terrain generation is just boring, plain and annoying. Now I make worlds and spawn in a plains biome, or an a 2x3 island in the middle of an ocean biome.
I am taking this link, sticking it on my Twitter directed @jeb_
Mojang and jeb in particular need to know how many people care!
I've only been playing Minecraft for little under a month. I have seen bits of 1.8 before but nothing earlier. I came in here. Curious after reading the OP I went and looked at the pre 1.8 link provided in the OP.
My reaction:
Seriously hope the message gets through guys. The idea of playing Minecraft in that world goes beyond words.

Hello everyone I have returned! Unfortunately I had to be gone for a few days from MC and the internet altogether! Hopefully that shouldn't happen again. I did not read through all the pages I have missed since my absence but I'll be sure to make that a priority. But after skimming over it a bit it seems Chaos has been keeping things pretty steady. As for the support list I'll have to update that as soon as possible. Again, sorry for the unexpected leave, it shouldn't happen again and if it does I'll make sure to let everyone know about it! Glad to be back and VERY glad the thread is still alive and gaining support!
Welcome to the jungle, we all look the same
Creepers hide behind our vines and cats all run away
We have pothole lakes
Our ground's covered with leaves
It'd be easier to burn us down
'cept we have cocoa beans
In the jungle, welcome to the jungle you're gonna fall off of our
ttttttt trees trees
You're gonna crack your knees!
Couldn't resist. Anyway, I'm not sure if I posted on this thread before or not, but I think the main problem with the current generator is, well, biomes. Every chunk of every biome looks more or less the same as every other chunk of that biome, save for the occasional ravine or structure. You can't fix this by adding more biomes; the best fix is to make the biomes more varied within the biomes themselves. More variation in height (this doesn't just mean "put hills everywhere!". There was this one distant field on my friend's old 1.7 server that was perfectly flat except for the gravel craters that pock-marked its surface. Stuff like that is cool), vegetation density, water pools, etc. would make them more interesting. Also, different kinds of mountains in extreme hills. Everything from shorter foothills covered with pine trees to enormous stone volcanic peaks with lava pouring over the sides. You could also eliminate the biome entirely and just generate mountains everywhere, but I like the idea of mountain ranges. I also rather like floating islands, and wouldn't mind having a really small chance to generate a moderately sized one (1-10 blocks) in any biome. Kind of gives it a slightly magical feel. Don't like it? Tear it down, no one's stopping you.
Caves are also way too big and common. Back in my day, we had to dig for iron! And you know what? We liked it!
Indeed. I never have had a main world since 1.9 I look at the world and I say "Nah this is to boring." I do this about 10 times and then I just quit, and go do something else.I agree on this 100%, and I hope that mojang hears this.
I love that pic.

I love that spoiler
and welcome
EDIT- 34th page!
having more biomes might help with variety as well.
No more new ****. They need to clean up the mess before they start adding on to the pile.
Agreed
