I dislike the abundance of resources in caves as well. The Deserts are great and lovely though the jungles have way too many ground level leaves and are way too easy to travel through. Minecraft fails to be realistic and also has practically no emphasis on the beauty of nature or gameplay.
To think that i was going to post a negative comment based on judging this by the title, well done sir! This will add great variety to land.
HOWEVER, adding new landscape features might not actually help, as worlds could still look the same. Example:
Seed 1: Greatly tall mountains, with a beautiful view of flowery plains and vast blue oceans.
Seed 2 Wide blue oceans with a mountain up in the north, right next wide plains of beautiful flowers.

Some people might say: "I actually LIKE the new biomes." Someone else might say "I like the new biomes, but the blending sucks." the next person would say, "Y U NO LIKE PLAINS???" To this the answer would be: they are useless.
First time I made my home on the plains wasn't because it was flat. It was because I had never done it before. that all changed once I took an arrow to the knee. Literally. A whole bunch of mobs spawn on the plains, so really, what do you have? Chests full of seeds that EVERYONE complains about, a whole bunch of mobs spawning around you, and a heapload of sheep that you can get what from? Wool, and string. Yay, more fishing rods?! Fishing rods and bows take a while to go down, and once you've got a bed and a wool floor, you're done. I'm picking on the plains because it's the flattest land but it sucks.
Now let's pick on the extreme hills. "I'm the extreme hills. Look, I'm sooo bumpy. Like my lumps?" Here's what happens: "Okay honey, going out to get grocer- ahhhhhhhhh! *crack* Honey, get the amphetamine..." The very next day: "Finally, some wheat! With this, I can bring animals back! Here piggy piggy piggy... Just come on do- *crack* *squeal* Facking bobshut! He dead!" The next next day: *break* "Oh, honey, going to get some more wood, my pick broke. Lalalala... *opens door* Where are all the trees?! *echo, echo, echo....*"
Now, tiaga. "Me is tiaga. Me's trees are big and dark, and we go one forever. We spawn next to desert because me's like to build sandcastles (?). For some reason, me's at sea level even though me is colder than everywhere else. Me has flowers and grass, even though me's too cold to have them. They's just have's a barrier around them's that snow's cant's get's through's it's. Me's a smart biome, and can build great sandcastles!
Desert. Got water? YUS! 'Nuff said. NVM, let's continue. I AM THE GREAT DESERT. YOU WILL FIND NOTHING OF VALUE HERE EXCEPT STUPID NPC VILLAGES THAT SOMEHOW GROW WHEAT ON MY MIGHTY MIGHTY SAND. I AM PROUD OF MY SAND, VERY PROUD, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT IS FLAT AND LOOKS LIKE A SERADED EDGE OF A BENT STAKE KNIFE. I AM THE ALL POWERFUL DESERT.
Ocean. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming all day long. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming all day long. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, all day long. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming all- OK, screw this, I'm drowning myself, even though I have full diamond! Caution: results will not vary. Even with a boat.
The tundra. I (eye eye eye eye) am the tundra (ah ah ah ah). You (o o o o) will find barely (e e e e) any (e e e e) animals here (ear ear ear) or grass (ras ras ras ras). Or trees (eas eas eas). Blah (ah ah ah ah).
The forest: Hullo! Hullo! Hullo! Hullo! Hullow! Say all the individual trees in the biome to you. Good morning, do you like your mobs sunny side up, or scrambled? Doesn't matter, because for some reason they don't burn through our leaves! All the mobs will be on your face in less than... oh dear you're already dead. Well anyway, I hope you like our new neighborhood on completely flat ground so that we trees can talk to eachother perfectly, and be annoyingly clumped together! Don't try to burn us down, because fire has been nerfed so badly it's useless on anything other than netherrack! Have fun!
Mushroom. We arr teh mushrooom biomee. We ave gient mushrooms taht fur sum rezon yo ant place evan en teh dark anymure unless ur in teh cave and cahnt grow dem tear anyway. Look at arr useless cows. We arr on an izland. Diz biome is usefull alret.
In addition, I wouldn't mind having the floating islands back. I'm actually not sure whether they are existent or not - or if it's really related to this thread (or even my thread). Gotta admit, they were pretty cool.
Sorry for OT, but if you want people to see your thread, there is a few things you must do. One, get the banner. Two, browse the forums, and contribute to topics. Now you need to contribute a lot to the topic, and be nice, maybe help some people out. Once you've got a post that will get noticed, people will visit your page, and some will look at your topics. If they see a topic like this with many views and an interesting title, they will click on it, especially if it's in their interest range. So go out there, post on some threads and really help people! Then they'll help you!
i support this 100%. i used to play minecraft until sunrise just because i had so much fun building my house on the amazing mountain sides i would come across, now i cant find a place to build and i constantly find myself deleting worlds before i ever get to build a house i am satisfied with.

I don't really understand your problem here? Could you try explaining your post better I don't really get what you're saying
@Siermo: We do not want plains removed from the game as a lot of players prefer them. We just want other terrain features implemented into the current generator so that plains will still exist but they wont make up 85% of the terrain.
Very eloquent first post, and more varied terrain would be nice, but I'd just rather have 1.7 biome gen with the new structures & biomes. Considering that I still got bored and started digging anyways, my gameplay hasn't cahnged in that regard from 1.6.6 when I started...Very eloquent first post, and more varied terrain would be nice, but I'd just rather have 1.7 biome gen with the new structures & biomes. I know, I didn't say that at all. I just like to pick on the biomes because I hate them.
Thinking back, in my main 1.3 world, I spawned in a small sand pit. Looked to my left, then to my right. It was rather bland. Then I checked 6 o'clock and saw this awesomely high opening between two cliffs. Thrilled, I walked on through and found what was comparable to an above ground ravine (or to be more pre-1.8, a canyon). Had a nice little pond, some cool overhangs, nice small forest out the rear exit, and a gigantic cave system that started in the face of the canyon. Since the adventure update and the terrain changes, I figured I'd put that world away so that it wouldn't change based on the new generation. It still sits on my computer. ^-^
But recently I've been doing some nosing around and lurking and I believe what would make a fair amount of people happy would be the following.
* As this topic states, bring back a little bit of the pre-1.8 land generation. Having these sweet overhangs is always a nice find. Sometimes as nice as finding diamond. * Raise sea level to be at level 96 since we now have 256 max height limit. Land/cave generation would need some adjustment as well as older worlds on a newer generator having "water cliffs" much like pre-1.8 to 1.8-post worlds do. * Speaking of caves, it's starting to be general consensus, it seems, that caves are spawning at the rate rabbits have babies! Unfortunately for people who need to explore everything before they get out, exploring can be a nightmare. Mineshafts are just as bad. Also both can be confusing when they start looping around and connecting to each other even with navigation systems at times (torches on the left mean you're heading to the exit, redstone lines, etc.). * And then there was something I forgot and if I ever remember it I'll put it here...
But yea, I support this thread/idea. It wouldn't hurt. We all know already that there are complainers existent (*coughemeraldorecougholdmemeisoldcough* ). Let 'em moan and complain while we do our moaning and complaining.

I tried to download a 1.7 world once, and put it in the newer version, and the terrain was the same but the biomes where messed up, and all the chunks that weren't loaded in the game data were sheer cliffs, and beyond that was a bit of ocean and then the regular gen.
Actually, instead of raising the sea level, why not increase the terrain height a little, or underground depth, or a little of both?
I agree with you. I put forth an idea a while ago for a new world generation method. It would mostly separate the biomes from the elevation and allow for much greater diversity in environments. I even had charts and diagrams to explain the implementation, but I'm certain it falls on deaf ears (or on forums should I say blind eyes?).
Jeb seems more concerned about adding trip wires and other gadgets to the game rather than fix fundamental aspects (which are much more difficult) such as world generation.
I got it! we can make everybody happy! all you have to do is make the pre-1.8 map generation an option like normal or superflat. Also, the new system that you are developing, why doesn't someone make a mod of it, just to prove it can be done?
I apologize if this has been suggested before. I don't have time to read 32 pages of posts.

You can however, use the search bar in the top right of the page to search the topic for key words. In this case implement pre 1.8 generation would be the search. Unfortunately either you are a smart alec or you didn't understand the full OP either. How many times did it say "we don't want the 1.7 generation back"? Atleast once, and I'd bet on 3. You can't come in here, and this is how I imagine you would do it in real life: *you snap, then bring your hands together to form a clap. Then, you say "Boom! Guys, I have it! Why not just bring back the pre-1.8 generation back as a seperate world type?" then crouch your knees, and point your index fingers in the group's general direction* Lost of people try not to commit assault. Even the fact that you want another world type for the thing is a bad idea. It's been a type of injustice, the kind of injustice you can commit from a video game. There's no reason to make the terrain suck, and when they bring it back, anyone who wants to can make and "old biomes mod" if they so wish. I'm sorry, but the guys who don't like the accidental blunder to minecraft's terrain were here first. It's gotten to the point of ridiculousness.
Hey I have one comment I tots agree with you guys but I have seen a few people go "hey make plains biomes have more mountains". I think that each biome should fit to its name. Any of them could have huge mountains, but 3 plains, deserts and oceans. Also i'm pretty sure they are adding this as a choice generator in 1.3

Well with this update hopefully the best of 1.7 map generation would be implemented into the current gen =)))
