If the modder is implementing the feature being requested, surely that makes it relevant to discuss "is this what I want?"
But it's not. This was posted in the Seeds forum originally and is now in the Suggestions forum. If we wanted a mod, it'd be in the Mods forum. Now let me explain to you why it still isn't relevant. If it was a mod, we'd have to wait every time Minecraft updated. Plus, mods are untrustworthy and can be buggy. This should be a part of the official game, as it was before.
And again to remind everyone: The features we have now (including the swiss cheesiness) will not disappear with the changes we're suggesting. We're adding rather than deleting. Sometimes you will find the current features less often and the potential newer features more often (and vice-versa). Every world will be random and unique from the last one and so on.

No, I'm not going to improve 1.8+ generation.
I don't want to discuss mods here, but it's hard to me to ignore questions. :/
Anyway, using mod just for 1.7.3 terrain screenshots (for people who say that current terrain is more interesting) is not offtopic here.
//Again, sorry.
If you'd like to answer questions about mods or your mod specifically and the question was posted on this thread; I am not asking you to ignore it - but I would like to ask you to please reply to it via pm so that we can get the discussion about mods to completely stop as this is irrelevant to this thread.
Using a mod for 1.7.3 screenshots is fine.. but they do not have to cherry top it with "And this mod is brought to you by: x" or "Credit to x for making this amazing mod" .. no need to emphasis it and begin a Q&A on the thread about the mod.
To be honest I never saw much of the pre 1.8 generation so I don't know what its like. I only had one world before 1.8 and it was a flat ish sandy area surrounded by trees. I don't know why there was a random enourmous patch of sand in the forest of trees but I thought it was really cool.
I haven't exactly seen anything like it after words.
It would be nice to have more interesting and exciting world generations.

Some of the pics on this thread and the first video in the OP show some examples of some pre 1.8 terrain You might want to look into those.

It was because of sand generation. All areas below 67 (not sure about exact height) can consist of grass (or sand in deserts), sand and gravel. It was used for beaches, but sometimes it created things like that.
Now generation is very flat, so it will cause giant patches of sand and gravel in random places. This is why it was removed.

One other BIG ploblems are the rarety of jungle and snow biomes. 99% of the times I start a new world I start in on of those. And the extreme hills biome are a little too rare to be the only place witchout the jungle and snow biomes that can I have hills. And the color of the extreme hills are ugly. It should be that green as the normal Oak and Birch forests. And the normal pine biome the same. I live in Norway and here, the real terrain are green! And I am fully agree! Notch... What are happening to the Terrain in minecraft!
But... I am liking the villages and the mineshafts, but they should be more rare! I, myself, am not a fan of floating land masses etc., but after 1.8, I've had no desire to play singleplayer, because it just put emphasis on how lonely it is. Plus, If the building height is now doubled, shouldn't mountains be twice as high, too? That would make some AWESOME cliffs!

Please excuse my username, I made it back when I was an awkward Anime dork. I am not anymore, thank you.
There should still be seeds, but only to the people who want them. You cannot just remove EVERYTHING about seeds, some people still like them, but what you're saying is right. I agree with your post, but seeds should not be removed, but be there as an option, and if you don't use seed, the world is generated the way you like it. anyone agree?
No one wants seeds removed. What are you talking about?
So you want in terms of geographical features:
More height diferential, depressions, more extreme hills, different sizes of caves other then one massive system,
Less generated structures, and larger beachs. Pretty much stuff removed by 1.0
Is anything missing?
Oh and extremer extreme hills, and taller mountains.

Your post is misguided This thread is a suggestion for the revival of seeds rather then the termination. Sorry for the misunderstand!

Structure generation is fine, ravines are a little over-abundant but the rest are fine. Yes larger beaches would be nice and no we want nothing removed from 1.0.
Extreme hills can stay as is, we would like extreme-hill type terrain generation in all biomes except plains and swamps.
I recall that Curse would ussually say something like, "Minecraft is showing no sign of slowing down". This would usually follow some big announcement about minecraft, like an update for instince. But after reading this and watching thoughs comparison videos that were given, I think Minecraft is slowy dieing. Sure, it's getting more and more people everyday. But, people are leaving. Minecraft runs on it's community. Minecraft is loosing it's community, not growing it like it seems. Why do we play video games? Because we want more realism in our lives? Heck no we don't! That is the LAST thing I want. I'm sure a lot of people could agree to this. Even with all these new updates that are given to us, it can't fill that void that used to be filled with the fantasy of Minecraft. Over the last 6 month or so, I had noticed that I was playing Minecraft less and less frequently. It used to be everyday, now it's more like once a week or less. I thought I was simply just loosing my taste for Minecraft. But no, it was the terrain generation. We were all taking the beutiful terrain that we used to get for granite. It left us, and it's taken this long for me to realize that it wasn't there anymore.
We need to grow this topic.
We need Mojang to read this.
We need Minecraft to become the game that it is meant to be.
Actually, your title is misleading and erroneous. What you should have said is "I don't like the terrain generator, and here is why." Seeds are far from useless because they let player use seeds other players have found that are interesting for some reason or that they used in the past that they like.
I'm also pretty sure you are wrong that seeds are only shared because of "structure generation", but hey, you want a nostalgia trip, so I'll just leave it at that.
Yes, it is a bit misleading. But if the title was "I don't like the terrain generator, and here is why", then it wouldn't be as interesting. The title should be changed, but so it still draws attention.

You pretty much got every thing exept in terms of less generated structures we mean slightly less revines and mineshafts and perhapes a bit more normal dungeons, and we dont want more extreme hills(though a few extras isn't bad) we just them more spread out

This thread gave me a good let's play idea: Let's play Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 (Will post link to first episode when created if Shreads allows me to!)
Why can't I have more than 1 link in my signature?
