Great! Please add me to your supporters! I had an idea while reading this... Maybe more biomes like mushroom island? I found this while doing a search with the BROKEN search.
One more biome will increase number of possible landscapes by 1.
Height variation will increase it much more.

Make a few new options in the Create New World menu. For example; World Generation Setting w/ settings: Beta, Alpha and Default. Maybe even be able to customize terrain specifically.

Do you want them to have to check it every time they change generation to make sure it's still accurate, change map format again to support Beta temperature/humidity-based biome system, have 2 biome systems at once, 3 algorithms of grass coloring etc?
That should stay in mods. And Mojang will not add that anyway. Default generator should be so good that old versions may only be useful for nostalgia purposes.
I loved the old beta worlds, but the more I think about it, this describes why I hate the new world gen system, rather than the lack of beaches. 11/10 support.

I have no idea what to do with my signature. This is good enough for now.

Read the OP >.<, Gah!
Nice to see 44 votes already in a week. That's a lot of support already. Keep it up guys Mojang is bound to listen eventually :/
Was hearing rumours that they're thinking of adding a "beta" type of terrain generator in the map creation options, but I've been doing research and have yet to see anything like that. If anyone knows of any information on this please let me know if it's true or not.
Mojang. You made the height limit 256 blocks. Land starts at 62. You have 194 blocks left. Mountains are high about 40-60 blocks max. Got 134 blocks left.
I mean C'MON! I think mountains should be WAAAAAAAAAY higher! They didn't make the new height limit just for adventure maps! Implement higher mountains, or even some floating islands! (the cool ones, not the sand and the gravel ones)
I think this is true for most, if not all Minecraft players. We aren't PVP-ers, or enchanters like other games. We don't want a ridiculously large list of numbers on the tooltip of every sword. We aren't the destructive gamers who have an obsession with headshots. We are the creators, the artists, the inventors, the redstone designers, the crafters and the 'make-your-jaw-drop-in-awe' gamers. The ones that care about the game, and want it to be the most fun it can when building.
I have to agree. even if I were to try to dissagree there is no way i cant not want this.
This is synopsis of what I have been doing the past month:
1. i built a house.
2. i mined.
3. what the crap? still a cave after 2 hours?
4. found the terrain boring.
5. actually got bored of minecraft.
6. went on my server.
7. had freinds come on.
8. mining AGAIN.
9. Got REALLY annoyed when all one of my freinds only wants to do rpgs ALL THE TIME.
10. STILL annoyed. starts trying to pretend im not on so i dont have to do rpgs.
11. found out how to use older versions.
12. played 1.7.3
13. STILL playing 1.7.3.
14. ONLY playing 1.7.3
15. ran a 1.7.3 server and had the non rpg freind play on it.
16. Found the terrain epic.
17. Is playing 1.7.3 all the time now.
I SUPPORT!
I always wanted minecraft worlds to be more accurate with larger biomes und higher mountains. Thats why i decided to create such a world by myself. maybe you are interested in this:

And Mojang seem to have forgotten that.
I can't help but disagree with you here. As a map maker, a player of maps, and a PvP'er, enchantments and the like are awesome. You're able to create a real curve of difficulty. And yes, we are builders... but how are you supposed to build on stupidly hilly land scape?
Monecraft is going towards improving the map-making side of the game, with the addition of command blocks and terrain more suitable for that. We put up with complicated and confusing landscape for our maps for you; now give a little back.
No support, to say the least. And I have nothing against you, Barry, you have some good points, but you're really only reaching out to a small number of fans. [/endnewbierant]

Height variation will increase it much more.
Constantly evolving, reaching further heights.

<facepalm>
I think the most fun thing pre 1.8 was the farlands.
It was really fun to explore.
(insert cringy dubstep minecraft intro here)

Rivers are as ugly as default ones though. How about this?
