Ok this has probably been suggested before. Just Warning you.
Alright, I've been thinking. What if you want to build a machine that ignites something (i.e. a Pig, zombie, etc) but you don't want to burn the oh-so-precious drops? Or what if you want redstone-controllable Fire lighting for that amazing evil temple thing you were working on?
Yes, I know there are alternative ways to do those things. For instance, you could substitute the fire trap for a drowning trap and substitute that fire lighting for redstone lamps or piston-mania. Desite this, I like a world filled with choices. Therefore I'm adding another choice to the mix.
Redstone-Powered Netherrack Flame Brazier Thingy.
Kind of a mouthful, ain't it? Let's call it the "Redstone Grill" for short.
What is it?
Brick Block = Netherrack
Gunpowder = Redstone Dust
It's a block, similar to the redstone lamp. When it recieves redstone power, the block will catch on fire (unless there is a block above it). When the current is dropped, the fire is extinguished.
Yes, I know there is a mod for this, but It doesn't create a new block (to my knowledge).
Uses:
Lighting
Fire Traps
Decoration/Light displays
Why it's better than normal Netherrack:
It can be deactivated to avoid burning useful things.
Why it's not Overpowered/Unreasonably easier than glowstone/redstone lamps:
You still have to go to the Nether to get the Netherrack. Duh.
You need 5 iron ingots to craft it, if you're making a significant number of them, that's a lotta iron.
Well, there's the idea. Comments?

I think that, because how specialized of an item it would be, it wouldn't see enough use. It seems more like something you'd do for adventure maps than anything else, and the game caters towards survival, not adventure.

1.8 and 1.9 Adventure update -Cough Cough-
I think it is a great idea Although why not just make a block that uses Coal, Flint and steel and some sort of flammable to fire flames like a flame thrower

Thanks for the warning.

Whats this? A seemingly good idea on the suggestions board? You are my hero.

Burning things is fun. I too like choices.

Sounds good.

Who cares? Mods are a pain to install and you have to wait for them to be updated having stuff in vanilla ice cream Minecraft is better!

Iron is pretty easy to find. Maybe chuck in a piece of gold or diamond somewhere (Or different models for better ones etc)

Pretty good idea, I could see this being implemented.
Love the idea. So long as it does't burn wood around it. Maybe if you right click it with a dye it makes different coloured fire? Blue fire anyone?
Haha, never thought of that, that would look pretty good aesthetically. Yeah i like this idea as well, but maybe add redstone in the middle of the recipe, and maybe a flint and steel on top, so it makes sense and is slightly more costly to make. But great idea, i would love this

I'm critical because I'm a critic.
"I only devoured two men"
- Decoration
- Lighting
- Traps
- Mob farms
- Adventure maps
And that's about it. Has a lot more uses than many of the things we have already.I'm looking at you, cactus.
