villagers have farms and have no one tho watch them. Make farmers they where green shirts and they will farm and watch the crops and there is a barn shaped house he stays in and farms the crops there can be a chest full of weat there to.

first, its spelled "wheat." and the point of farms in villages in the game now is just to provide the player with an easy source of food. there wouldnt really be a point of farmers. i think that when they were added, the devs felt like once a player came and raided a village that if they decided to settle there that they would take over the farm and care for it themselves, hence making farmers pointless. idk, it could be cool, but thats just my opinion
