hi everyone, im fairly new here and this is the first offocial thread i've actually created so if I break any rules or w/e please let me know and i'll do my best to fix what ive done wrong.
anyhho, on to my idea.
so as you can probably tell from the title, i'm suggesting hostile water mobs/more water mobs in general, as there are only squids as of now
one of the mobs could be a shark, pirhana , or even cthulu!
anyone like this idea?
*braces for "Just get mo creatures n00b."*
I would get mo creatures but i just think it'd be cool to have those types of mobs implemented in to the game, without having to mod it.
Personally I am against any water mobs unless they are purely aesthetics, like tiny fish. Because the size of the new ocean biomes is already stupidly annoying as it is. I don't want to have to deal with stupid mobs making it even more unpleasent.
good point purpletophat but you need to go sailing and it will make fishing a lot more interesting, say if u catch something big like a shark or a whale it could drag you in!

Minecraft doesn't have the mechanics to support that sort of thing -- atleast not to the extent that you'd "feel" you are reeling in a bigger fish. And now you are just adding to making survival even more difficult during the start of the game. Assume you make a fishing rod early on and need food -- now all of a sudden a whale or shark is killing you.
true but, what if it depended on how fast you are at scrolling? for example to reel a whale inyou need to scroll say 500 times as fast as you possibly can (500 is JUST an example) if a certain time passes and you dont hve 500 you get pulled in, if you press q and let go of the rod, your no longer being dragged under and you can swim back to safety
also when you begin the game your first thought normally isnt "crap i need food lets go fish" its "crap i need food lets go kill those pigs/cows!" or "lets start a wheat farm"
fishing is usually only used for taming ocelots as there are much more effecient ways of getting your hungerbars back, such as cooked steak/bread.
How about something called Wreaker, it looks like the water it lives in so it is camoflauged, and it's goal is to wreak boats that is traveling in the water, it spawns in groups. If you are lucky to kill it, it would drop a boat so you have a new one. It can't hurt you, just breaks boats.

"Colder than the snow that blankets the earth" "Colder than the ice that cover the stones and freezes the rivers" "Colder than the north wind blowing through a winter-bound forest" "Colder than all these is the smile of a Shade of the Dark"

I would love to see sharks that are in the dark parts of the ocean. They'd avoid light and be attracted to swimming players(not boats), but at night they'd get closer to the surface.
They would deal a fair amount of damage, and drop raw fish when killed.
Of course...
I also thought of a ruins thing for the ocean.
Like a shipwreck sort of thing, with chests, zombie spawners, flooded rooms, and maybe a villager that somehow survived the wreck. On full moon nights there's a rare chance of a boss mob spawning in the area while you're in it...
A Kraken!
Killing it would spawn a wooden platform on the ocean surface with a chest containing valuables, and obviously quite a bit of xp.
With it's tentacles, it could destroy wood, and grab you, throw you far or into itself to cause you damage.
You'd have to attack it's main body to actually kill it, but you could kill its tentacles for extra xp and an easier fight.
It's main body could spit ink balls at you that could cause a status effect of some kind, and hurt you.
It would have a boss meter, and if for some reason you were able to run or it becomes morning, it sinks deep into the ocean and despawns.
You could face multiple krakens.
Sorry for going on about that, it's just something I've put thought into to make oceans more interesting...

That would be a cool idea...
Maybe instead of the ships having the kraken, there could be "squid" that may have the hp of an iron golem, with less attack power, but it could drop an item that, craft 4 into a "block", and then a 3x2 portal with a 1*2 hole in the center so you could jump through, and then it would take you to a water boss dimension with a "kraken" boss... Just an idea
