Now, Wolves. They run head first into stronger mobs, jump into flames and soar off cliffs. This is not good for their health. Now I was thinking, what if there was a non-splash potion way to give them a bit more durability, and thereby longevity. My first thought was helmets or chests, but that was Overzealous and distracting, so I tried to think of something more fitting. Then it hit me, collars! Collars of Leather to Diamond. Now at first I was thinking maybe an armor bar would be added but that doesn't overcome their main problem. So I then figured what if it just gives them temporary health that they can't recover via food. Temporary Hearts that cover all damage, obviously how many determined by the material. Let's say hypothetically Iron gives 2 'Armor Hearts' and the wolf takes 1 Heart of damage from any source. It now has it's regular health and 1 Armor Heart. Even if you feed the Wolf food to recover, or splash potions, the lost armor heart will come back. This is like regular armor but I only did this so it can cover one of it's bigger problems; environmental damage. Now I haven't figured out a clever way to make them removable, so for now it's impossible to get them back.
My idea for crafting is essentially this; http://i.imgur.com/IIiUy.png
Where the boxes stand for either Leather, Gold, Iron, or Diamond, and the ring represents the type of collar you would receive.
tl;dr: Wolf collars that give un-replenishable health points.

Thank you, comrade.
