Yea i know it might sound funny but i think it would be cool to see a rainbow in minecraft. And maybe at the end of the rainbow there could actually be like a small pot of gold or something. There would be a percentage that it appears after the rain stops and lasts like 7-10mins?
I agree with the first part, but not with the second. If rainbows were actual blocks, it would cause so much lag when they appear, plus it would be difficult for them to spawn properly. (I assume that they need to be blocks for there to be an "end" to it.) If it was just part of the background, it would be pretty nice.
i think you could make it using colored wool, with a few gold ores at the end of each, make it spawn at the farthest generated chunk on your world after rain has been going for a LONG time.
It would be better to rebuff the whole sky system, with a texture/starmap for the stars and such. That way, various effects can be added, like a rainbow appearing occasionally, or meteor showers at night. None of which would be actual blocks, however. They would jut be for looks. It would probably cut down on lag and general spawning difficulties.

Minus the gold part. It'll be like ooh it's raining after it ends lets get free gold.Just make the rainbow a 2d image instead. It will cost some lag if it is 3d.
it wouldnt make lag, unless the blocks were entities. If they are actual mineable blocks, its is just like building a huge tower. And rainstorms lasting super long dont happen too often, so it would be like hey its raining lets go get some free gold afterwards

You know whats funny..If the gold ingots were stuff inside the chest after the rainbow appears..But,you can place the gold on the cauldron and you get the pot'o'gold but, after 5 min. it disappears.
I actually really like this idea. I think it could be an image or something, and when you get closer to it, the rainbow starts to fade out, get further away, fades back in, but it gradually fades out anyway, and lasts about 10 minutes. And the pot of gold would be cool but maybe not a pot of gold, more like a chest with a few good things in it.

i think that it should be a 3d illusion but ends and at the end>S< there are 8 blocks of diamond
Rain could trigger an event that spawns a pot of gold (or a chest) pot of gold could project a particle rainbow towards the original spawn so you could follow it to the pot of gold, but you'd be on a time limit as it would last a short time after the rain stops.
in the pot/chest there could be a random amount of different ores, but always at least one diamond.
How would this rainbow be coded?
Would it be blocks with various colors?
Or would it be like the sun and moon, a 2d image?
I need more. MOAR DETAILS

Yea i thought of that to but maybe just some sort of light block. like a block where you cant mine it but you could still go through it. but not like a full block but like a line from the side and its colored from the face and back

8 blocks of diamond..... 72 diamonds doesnt seem like a lot to you? Suggesting that would be an instant no from mojang.
