I was thinking early today about the landscapes and biomes of Minecraft, more specifically about the formations contained within them. One of the things I'd really like to see added to the map generation is different formations and aspects of the biomes, unique features. I decided to post this to see if anyone else agrees, and if so, what ideas you all had.
Personally, I'd really like to see the addition of large rivers further into the landscape. Currently, you can find small parts of the ocean cutting into the coast, but nothing like a river flowing through a mountain/forest landscape.
Another formation I'd like to see one day is large waterfalls. Sometimes you can find small 1x1 waterfalls come out the side of a cliff, but never anything like Niagra Falls. If you've ever seen a picture of something like this, there could be a small forest alcove, with a waterfall pouring over a cliff into a pond below.
So! Does anyone like these ideas? Are such formations even worth the Minecraft team looking into adding, in your opinion? And if so, what others ideas do you guys have?
If you go back to alpha, perhaps you even knew that time, biome generation was, to say the least... wild. That is to say crazy floating islands, and cut up mountains and all sorts of other crazy things. However it did have the advantage of having each place be very different from an other. And we lost that in the recent generators, because the maps all look more or less alike. It's a pity but there is not much we can do. So I agree with your idea. More characteristics means that each land is more different than before.
