You know how you have a thread hall of fame? You should make a thread hall of lame (I am way too proud of myself for coming up with that one) with bad suggestions that are good examples of what not to do (and perhaps point out why). If you do this, you probably shouldn't call it that, as it might be a bit offensive. In fact, labeling suggestions like that in a specifc section might not be very nice, but I think it could really help the thread if you do it in a way that doesn't break any rules and isn't mean.
When there are suggestions like this, a hall of lame seems like overkill. We don't need a special section to know what sucks.
You seem to throw out words like FINAL when we already saw one rule overturned. Nothing is final.
If you're offended, that sucks, but doesn't mean anything is final.
Yeah once was enough. However I did not say I was offended. I simply stated that it was breaking the rules of the Minecraft Forums. Follow the rules, or get out. And yes. THAT. IS. FINAL. If you have a problem with that, too bad.

And I can say pretty surely the forums agrees. And saying "The rule might change" is quite possibly the worst excuse for breaking a rule I've ever heard
You misinterpreted that. The whole "the rule might change" was a statement to disprove how nothing on an internet forum can be final. It was an excuse to break a rule.
This is a stupid argument. Let's just end it with, you really shouldn't be saying anything to insult another user (and by "shouldn't" I mean, are not allowed to). If you don't agree with that, you obviously shouldn't be posting on these forums.
I agree, but sadly we don't live in an ideal world and no one will ever follow that. "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all!" Hahahah-no. The human race can't seem to sustain that very well.

Okay, I got one for "Presentations You Should Avoid":
Yes, I know that there is one similar that says somehting along the lines of "oh but he only has a 0.00000000000000000001% chance of spawning.", but I feel that this needs to be further elaborated on, along with another related issue that isn't discussed in the OP that is also something that people use too much.
Overuse of percentages and Nerfing Bad Suggestions with Percentages
Don't use percents to handle everything. It is too extreme, and makes your idea sound unprofessional, despite the use of math (painfully basic math, that is). And for the love of god, please don't use it as an excuse to have something that is really overpowered. I don't care if your idea for a giant skeleton that flies a World War II bomber only has a 0.00000000001% chance of shooting giant mega bullets that obliterate everything in sight. I don't want things that are overpowered and annoying in the game in the first place. And I don't want everything handled with percentages. That is not how most things in the game work, and it should not become a way of doing things. The most common use for percentages [in Minecraft] are spawning rates. Stick to that if you can't contain your fetish for decimals.
um um um um okay so we got da new mob in da house his name iz da super mega creeper but dont worry he is friendly and has a 20% chance of giving hugz, and a 1% chance of blowing up your entire world, and a 30% chance of stomping on ur house and a 60% chance of killing u and a 10% chance of spawning 10 more creepers oh and a 20% chance of spawning fire-breathing dragons to be his minions and a 5% chance of throwing you 200000000 blocks in the air hurrrr durrrrr and oh plz sup-hort me this suggestion is legendary. ALL BOW DOWN TO ME AND REALIZE HOW SMART I AM! #WINNING oh and dont worry dat duh purcentagez add up to a numbur dat iz over 100 becuz i think dat dis suggestion iz so good dat we need to redo the entire way that mathematiczzz work so dat dis suggestion work becuz it is dat legendary ok support me i am smart look at me! BE JEALOUS!
This should probably be changed to: Mobs/ores that have a very VERY low percentage or chance of spawning. And this could also involve the ridiculous power and annoying mechanics the mob would have/the overpowered use the player could use to their advantage.
I have to disagree with you because you're an Endergirl and Endergirls are always wrong.
Percentages should only ever be used when something has a direct chance to do X. Percentages for generating structures, ores, and mobs is extremely vague by themselves, since there needs to be something that triggers the RNG before the percentage can be used. An example is "20% chance to spawn". 20% chance when? When any normal mob spawns? Every tick? Every second? Every day? Unless it is specified what triggers the roll, percentages as invalid as dividing by 0. >3> Actually, now that I'm already here...
Improper, vague, or redundant usage of percentages
This is for the "Presentations you should avoid", btw.
Percentages are a great and simple way to express the average chance for X to happen, but you can't just throw in a number and expect that to explain everything. If your ore has a 20% chance to spawn, does that mean it has a 20% chance to exist in the world? Or does it have a 20% chance to replace stone? Like a die needs to be rolled, you need something to trigger the "roll of the die" to determine things, such as how spiders has a 33.3% chance to drop a spider eye upon a certain condition, which is the death of the spider in this case.
Also, not only should there be a condition, but a percentage needs to be meaningful. A 25% chance to drop 2 items is practically the same as a 50% chance to drop 1-2 items, but the latter feels much more consistent to the player since they'd be gaining loot every second enemy on average, rather than every fourth enemy. There may be very specific situations in which this doesn't apply, but as a general rule, drops should feel consistent to excite the player enough that they don't find themselves bored.
um so like, there should totz be a new mob called the creper! its a floating crepe that explodes like a creeper! it has a 10% chance to spawn and has a 20% chance to drop 5 crepes which give 2 hunger each! plz don't be mean this is my little brothers suggestion
Yes, the creper was in fact an accidental typo that I just rolled with, and yes, people probably put less effort into thinking up ideas.
I have to disagree with you because you're an Endergirl and Endergirls are always wrong.

Alright, but what about using percentages as a way to 'balance' your suggestions? Suggesters could suggest an overpowered mob (One that provides a bountiful use for Players or one to place against the players) or ore that's more efficient than Diamonds or all ores combined, but to 'balance' it uses a very low percentage.

I think it would be redundant to state that, since "rare" would imply a low chance, which is the same as a low percentage.

As for the "0.0000000000000000000001%" chance dilemma, I think that's covered in the "But it's rare!" entry.

I don't know why people think they can say this to try and invalidate arguments by saying that it shouldn't argued against because it is "just a thought" and can't be argued against because the thought isn't perfect and is just an opinion, so you can't disprove it or prove that it is a bad idea. In a way, this kind of argues against arguing. This also makes you sound like you don't even take your own post seriously.

Well if they say to stop hating like in the example, sure. But most of the time it's just someone defending themselves from attacks that become more directed towards them, rather than the suggestion. I don't have a problem with excuses. They're just reasons that excuse you something. I dislike the common hate on excuses. False excuses are a problem, but excuses are fine. Like, I was sick, I can't go to school. Perfectly fine excuse. This is one of those excuses. (when used in the correct context, if it's used like in the example you're right, it's just that's not how this excuse is usually used)

Not all excuses are bad, such as being sick for work/school, but there are many others that allow people to convince themselves or others to not do the right thing, to not be productive, to not put any effort into anything, etc. And not all of these bad excuses are false. They do have some validity and truth to them, and that is why it is easy to convince yourself with their faulty logic.
"well um um um um um um um im not going to help this person even though i am in a perfectly suitable position to becuz um um um someone else will do it
"well um um um um um i can get that done tomorrow i have time so i am going to sit down all day and accomplish nothing"
"well um um um um um um um um um um um um it is still satisfactory i dont feel the need to make it the best i can so um um yeah"
Do you see what I mean? Excuses get a bad reputation because they often end up being illegitimate reasons for doing certain things (or not doing certain things). They can often be extreme. When someone makes an excuse about something, it is usually exaggerated, mostly untrue, and lazy. I rarely ever hear an excuse that is a good one.
And even if you have no problem with excuses, "It's just an idea" is still a bad excuse and a bad argument for the reasons I stated before. It doesn't matter if people are attacking the thread and you like a pair of vicious barking dogs. It doesn't work in that context and won't help your case
On the topic of excuses: As a matter of fact, usually when people use excuses they ARE good. Humans are just too stupid now, and have the new, bad definition of excuse ingrained in their brains. So they don't see being sick or something legitimate like that as an excuse. An excuse is something that excuses you. The examples you have we're not real excuses, they were excuses according to what people commonly believe an excuse is. But this is sort of irrelevant, that was just one of my stupid philosophical rants.
On the topic of "it's just an idea": I was saying if it was JUST personall attacks. Don't say that I was saying "attacking the thread and you". I'm saying, JUST you. And that could be one single person, who says something like "You shouldn't even be on the minecraft forums (with nothing else criticizing the thread)". "It's just an idea" is just something used to prevent things from escalating. Protesting its use is like if someone says "calm down" and you scream back "DONT TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!!! As a definite answer, it's unacceptable. You can't say it's just an idea and end there. But that doesn't mean it's something that's prohibited to be said or anything. Everyone interprets language differently, and therefore it's not up to you, or anyone else, to decide what people can and can't say

This is another time where I turn into a walking dictionary. This is never done to intentionally be a pedant, but to help clarify in cases.
Excuses and Explanations go hand in hand, but are different in a few ways. Excuses are flimsy unverifiable pretense used to rationalize why one would disappoint. Explanations are understandable and valid responses to disappointment.
Let me explain further. If your car breaks down while going into work and you have to get it repaired as your obvious source of livelihood (and it, incidentally, makes you late for work because a friend now has to drive you in), is that an excuse? Or is that an explanation for tardiness?
An excuse: "I am sick and can't come in."
An explanation: "I went to the ER with a fever of 102F, my doctor has not okayed me to go to work (with documentation)"
I suppose, to correlate this back to Minecraft:
"Well, it's not OP because it's rare" is an excuse.
"In order to access this ore, you have to be at 8,8 or below. It has a 0.25% drop chance at that depth" is an explanation.
Keep in mind excuse vs explanation is a problem that both critics and suggesters have a problem with. The big difference between the two words is veracity.
But most of the time it's just someone defending themselves from attacks that become more directed towards them, rather than the suggestion. I don't have a problem with excuses. They're just reasons that excuse you something.
Every single time I've seen someone say "guys it's just an idea!", it was because the OP just gotten a lot of non-supports and couldn't handle it. Also, these people look kind of stupid when they defend their idea like it's their newborn child, have it bashed down with excellent reasons, run out of ways to defend the idea and then jump to the other side of the field and play the whole "this is nothing more than text on a forum, omg you guys calm down!" These posters need to pick a side and stay there.

Like, I was sick, I can't go to school. Perfectly fine excuse. This is one of those excuses. (when used in the correct context, if it's used like in the example you're right, it's just that's not how this excuse is usually used)

stop defending yourself when you wrong with "It just an Idea" Word. if everyone reply that idea is bad, or not good, just inhale and exhale, realize what your mistake, and then try to learn how to write good suggestion. if you use that word (it's just idea), it only make everyone rage at you
Sorry, was this a response to my comment? If not just ignore this post

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

[/p] Honestly, I’m very glad this thread is here; I was about to unknowingly
make some of these mistakes before I thought “Hmm…did I do any of- OH GEEZ I
DID”! Thanks, you really saved me before did something stupid ^^
Looking back, I was going to post a “Suggestion List”. Oh man, it was bad XD it
was 200+ unrelated things that probably would have been more at home in the ‘Small
Suggestions’ thread. As disappointed as I feel, I’m even happier that I didn’t
post. Again, thanks.[/p] [p]
