What? I didn't have time to reply to him, but I will get to him sometime, not now, because it's late. Have you checked the time? What's your problem?
Alright. Nevermind. I thought you were either relapsing really bad or just trying too hard to be funny.
No, no I don't. I just explained the case. -__- I never said that you are a troll who is "out to get me". YOU put that in there, and assumed that that was what I was saying. Also, regarding the more furnaces thread, the main reason why I put that amethyst furnace was because a lot of people requested a powerful endgame furnace.
You clearly ignored what Cerroz said to you about what's in your sig. You seem to be very tired of all these people telling you ignore arguments, but it's gotta mean something if all of us are saying it to you in the first place. Because we wouldn't bring it up for absolutely no reason.

The Unofficial Suggestion Guide - Everything you need to know to not make goofy mistakes in a suggestion! Honestly though, you should really go there.
No. Just paraphrase what they're saying. "You said this: blah blah blah." Don't put it in quotes (if they didn't say it), don't purposefully misspell things (if they didn't do it), don't act immaturely (no one deserves it). And really, if you don't want to discuss something, just tell them that you don't want to discuss something. If you act calmly and maturely and say what you really mean, you're more likely to be taken seriously.
Even better idea than paraphrasing; quote them directly. You don't need to paraphrase when you can simply quote to the link. Heck, there's post links in the upper-right corner of each post for quite easy access. Paraphrasing at all (even well intentioned) is strawmanning; and strawmanning is a crippling logical fallacy that hurts the reputation of any poster.

Strawmanning only happens when you get what they mean wrong. A good follow-up to a paraphrase is to make sure that it is actually what they're saying ("This is what you're saying, right?"). Quoting people and picking apart their quotes is an annoying habit that leads to faulty overanalysis. Summarizing what they're saying in your own words helps clarify the information for both people. For you, you're applying critical thought to comprehend it; for them, they're seeing what you think they're saying, so they can correct misunderstandings.

Dude... I just said: I don't ignore arguments; when I partially quote an argument, that's most likely because I haven't come up with a counter-argument for every bit at that very minute, or possibly because I don't have time to respond to that in particular. It could mean that you mistook one of my (intended) actions for something else.
Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!
Am I the only person on this forum who doesn't think this guide is basically infallible? I mean, if I were to sum it up, it'd basically just be "don't even bother making suggestions, because anything you suggest will be a Bad Suggestion and you will be a Bad Poster, and you'll be eaten alive by criticism." The whole thing is just pretentious and absolutist in tone, while criticizing those very qualities in suggestions. Look, if it were a mod, or admin, or something writing this, I'd understand. You pretty much get to be like that if you run the forum. But unless I'm in error, this is just something a few random (if high-profile) posters cooked up. So why does it treat itself like an extension of the forum rules? The whole "anybody who reads this is automatically better than anyone who doesn't", in particular...bothers me. Like, if you read this, you're just more open-minded or something than if you don't. It's holding up this guide as an absolute standard, and it's creepy.
The first section, the one that's an image, is pretty good. Some helpful tips, although it's still mildly condescending. But with a few exceptions, the rest of it is mostly just "I don't like or disagree with these specific suggestions and methods, and so because my opinions are the only ones that matter, they should be auto-locked and anyone who suggests them permabanned."
Honestly, it seems like it'd just be simpler to campaign to get this whole subsection shut down. That pretty much seems to be your goal. The entire tone of most of the guide is just saying "don't bother, because if you try to do any sort of suggestion at all, you won't be able to live up to these standards."
The spoiler in your sig is rather... strange. And also not very accurate. Yes, there are things that don't fit in Minecraft. Call of Duty perks. Seeds that turns into Starbucks franchises and Richard Simmons mobs.
Bringing up punching trees doesn't prove anything, because in a game where we can destroy and reshape the world any way we want. Punching trees still has a very good place in the game. When we have nothing in hand, we only have our fists (obviously), and the block we need to start everything is the wooden log. So using our fists for a moment just to get that starting block still falls very well into the scope of the game.
We have zombie hordes in Minecraft, like in Call of Duty. I don't see how they don't go with a specific theme in Minecraft, if it doesn't really have one. Sure, those other two have no point in the game, but that doesn't mean that they "don't go with the theme of the game".

Oh, many of your concerns are indeed valid. However, I wouldn't say that all suggestions are "bad" suggestions. I've seen a ton of GREAT suggestions that still trespass on a lot of the points outlined here. Hell, a lot of my suggestions (when I had the wherewithal to suggest) treaded lightly on what's written here.
I may be speaking too soon, but no one here thinks they're high and mighty. I doubt theriasis expects as much from people as what's written here. I would agree that I don't like the tone presented in this thread; but that's all personal opinion. In conclusion, while you're not expected to follow everything written here to a tee, keeping in mind the reasons why these issues are here will help you form and craft a much better suggestion; and one that certainly would be difficult to do anything but support.
Of course, I'm not an active member of their clique, so I have no right to say what they would or would not do.
One thing I would like to say is you don't need a rank of mod, admin, or global mod to write guides or help others; nor are these guides a resume to such a position. With that said, I'd reconsider the use of "living up to standards" when criticizing the work here.
Am I the only person on this forum who doesn't think this guide is basically infallible? ...
This guide is not meant to be the be-all catch-all addition to the rules. It's meant to help people actually think before posting a suggestion. The reasons behind the content of this thread are more important to understand than the actual content.

Apologies if I've restarted something...I read the first ten or so pages of the thread, but not the whole thing. I don't know. Maybe I was a bit rude. Sorry. I stand by my concerns, though, although I'm not really sure what I'm trying to accomplish here. The guide is fairly good in general, though. My main complaints are just with some of the tone and specifically the "Suggestions We Hate" section. That's about it, really.

If you just ignore it and completely leave it unmentioned, it looks like you're trying to run from something - that you're hoping the argument just suddenly disappears if you leave it untouched. I think Chameleonred5 already said that, so I'll just move on.
But I'll throw in something really quick. When you openly admit that you don't have the answer to something, that shows you got the stones to admit that, which gives you a better reputation than running away from something and hoping "Is... is it gone yet?" They also add an interesting event to villages, therefore giving villages something more original compared to other locations in the game. I also don't understand why you compared that to Call of Duty...
I understand Minecraft is a fantasy game with strange things, but in the scope of good game design, you don't wanna add every single possible thing you can think of, and then butter that up with "It's Minecraft, it doesn't have to make sense, there's no fitting or unfitting. Let's just add away!!" I'm sure when Minecraft was first being made, some of the ideas that are deemed unfitting now might have been plausible, but as the game becomes developed and reshaped, it begins to become a theme of its own, which can therefore set up it's own "guidelines" in time.
Let's look at Guardians. Those things are pretty weird, but they're interesting, original additions to oceans. They're very random, but they're balanced and work with the fiction that Minecraft has without being too stupid and over the top to be bad, cringeworthy and childish mobs. Even without the fitting/unfitting thing, you still don't want to add football playing Creepers that throw washing machines at you with their eyes.

The wonderful thing about a forum is you have a LOT of time to formulate an answer. Like, weeks if not months to supply an answer. The only thing stopping you is the desire to not look like a jerk (which is a valid one), Outside of that, if you can't readily formulate a reply to a quote without looking like you've ignored it, then simply don't reply at all.
Sometimes, due to the wildly exploding scope, I am forced to "ignore" parts of a discussion simply because each post spirals to massive levels of granularity; it's unwieldy and the point is lost. But who am I to determine what is pedantic and what is actually discussion material. During these points, I still try to answer as much as I can; but I spend more time snagging loose segments under a wide enough net to corral the discussion back. It's a nuanced point, and one that is frustrating and difficult to master (even by me, someone that has done it for a while).
Also, Minecraft is not Fantasy. Read FTC on "attacking the hydra" for more information. We can have the discussion until we're puking alphabet soup, suffice to say you're establishing pre-existing tropes to a game that readily defies them as a run of course.
Sounds like a good way to let the person know that, but what if I'm away, or if I lost internet connection?
If that's the case, you probably wouldn't be making the reply in the first place. Just wait until you have the chance to reply again. If you're in a situation where you're typing a post, but then suddenly find out your time is limited, either try to quickly explain that in the reply, or explain that the next chance you get.
I never said that there was anything wrong with zombie hordes in Minecraft. You said that Call of Duty perks don't go with the style of Minecraft, so I named one that exists in Minecraft.
Uhhh... no. I never mentioned Call of Duty perks. You said "We have zombie hordes in Minecraft, like in Call of Duty." As if Call of Duty was the first game to have such a thing. The concept of a zombie horde has existed for decades. Zombie hordes are not a very good example for this subject.
Of course you wouldn't want football throwing creepers! What would they add to the game, anyway?
They would add Creepers wearing football helmets and footballs and washing machines! All those new things! Wouldn't that be cool?! But seriously, whether you think this is cool or not or even if this was perfectly balanced, it has no place in a game like Minecraft. It's just goofy and would be a stupid thing to add. In other words. It doesn't fit. Or at least, shouldn't.
But could you tell me what the theme is? Plus just because there isn't fitting or unfitting, doesn't mean that an item doesn't need to meet any requirements (like balance, or purpose in the game).
Minecraft itself is the theme. It's been out for so long and is so well developed with originality it has actually created it's own theme. If I were to say "Mario theme", you would think about mushrooms, question mark blocks, going in pipes and koopas. If I were to say "Portal theme", you'd think about portals, test chambers, automated personality cores and even combustible lemons.
We wouldn't want frat boys that attack you with axe body spray in Portal, and we wouldn't want ESPN announcers in Mario games because those goofy things have no place there and have no good association with those games. They don't fit.

No, I didn't say that. It feels like whoever wrote that section is just listing things they don't like, and trying to speak for everyone. Also, I get the feeling that some of the things listed will result in people shooting down things out-of-hand for having certain elements, regardless of context. I don't like it when anything encourages people to act without thinking first.

It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!

If that's the case, you probably wouldn't be making the reply in the first place. Just wait until you have the chance to reply again. If you're in a situation where you're typing a post, but then suddenly find out your time is limited, either try to quickly explain that in the reply, or explain that the next chance you get.
Uhhh... no. I never mentioned Call of Duty perks. You said "We have zombie hordes in Minecraft, like in Call of Duty." As if Call of Duty was the first game to have such a thing. The concept of a zombie horde has existed for decades. Zombie hordes are not a very good example for this subject.
Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
Unofficial Suggestions Guide (2.0) - by Theriasis
Unofficial Critics Guide - by yoshi9048
You say that that is limiting you from making a suggestion? I have made... 7 or 8 suggestions, none of which are included on the list, so for coming up with one, just think for a little bit.
Also, the suggestions listed in "Suggestions we hate" are there for a reason, as you probably will be eaten alive by criticism as you said in your first post.
Sum up of this post:
- Keep It balanced
- Be original
- Follow the theme
- Don't use excuses
- Fix things that were criticized(If it is a good critic)
As long as you follow that, you should pretty much be good. Also take a look at this guide if you are requesting builders for a server/project.
Please note, if I deny a suggestion because it is already possible, then I mean it is already possible withing 10 command blocks (That do not spawn other command blocks) or up to 5 creations (Command blocks that spawn other command blocks) to make your suggestion.
If I critique your suggestion I am not hating on you. Learn the difference.

My best suggestion:
Mobs actually being varied???
No, I didn't say that. It feels like whoever wrote that section is just listing things they don't like, and trying to speak for everyone. Also, I get the feeling that some of the things listed will result in people shooting down things out-of-hand for having certain elements, regardless of context. I don't like it when anything encourages people to act without thinking first.
Have you seen many of the bad suggestions she points out? She does speak for pretty much everyone. Everyone bombards these bad ideas the moment they enter the forum.
This thread is designed to help people think. It doesn't just say what's bad, it explains why it's bad.
If you are planning to make a suggestion, please read this.
If you want to know more, you can read this.
For those who complain about post-Beta generation, you might want to see this.
Some of these weren't hated, until presented in the guide, and some of these ideas can be good if suggested correctly.
