"Let's take a mechanic we're all familiar with, then change it completely!"
I will never, ever understand why people make suggestions like that. Most of them are the basis of retarded joke threads.
"You know how we can just make stuff at a crafting table? Well I think we shouldn't have it like that because... that's what I think! Mojang has to make it so we have to find a blueprint from hostile mobs first, and then we can craft stuff. Even the crafting table itself! So we have to kill mobs with just our fists for a while! Auuuuggh we need this!"
Totally man, Mojang is gonna take one quick skim of your suggestion and decide "well this guy thinks we need this, time to suddenly change this mechanic now!" Your brain, use that.
If you're gonna suggest a mechanic rehaul of some kind, at least try to give it a positive and reasonable tradeoff, instead of taking something that was already set up perfectly and smearing doodoo butter all over it for no reason.
Marvelous, just marvelous.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that who cares? He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
"I'm only [young age]"
This is something I hear a lot. Age is not an excuse for maturity. I've seen 7 year old kids make great and detailed suggestions because they have the attention span to do so. If you really believed this, then why did you post a suggestion in the first place? Get some determination and make a proper suggestion.

That's already in the list, though that always bothered me. It's funny how these young kids are "smart" enough to know their suggestions might not be good enough and use their age as a fail cushion, but they don't use that same wit to better refine their ideas.
Stop linking to "examples of bad", and recreate a scenario without names if you must; otherwise you're no better than the one you're putting on the stake.
Can this be added to the top of the thread? This is to instruct not to nail someone to the cross.
I'm not sure if this is already in the list, but if not, this should be added:
Dependencies
"If cubic chunks are added, add sky domes at level 10000!"
"When Mojang adds the rest of the Mo Creatures entities, they should add another wyvern!"
"They should add tomatoes so that they can add sandwiches!"
It doesn't happen often, but enough to annoy me. An idea should only suggest something that depends on something not added if it's confirmed that it's being added or is in a snapshot. You can't make a house when you don't even know if a foundation is being made.

There are things known as the 10 Suggestion Commandments. Many know the obvious, such as, "Thou shalt search before typing thy post," or, "Thou shalt not be vague," but one that no one knows is, "Thou shalt organize thy post." More people need to know of this commandment.

The last example is okay. If the suggestion is about sandwiches, then the poster can suggest other items and ingredients to go with it. However, yes, the other two are definitely valid examples.
If you're the suggester, throw all of your crap into the OP. NO ONE is going to read 3~4 pages for the corrections you offer. Edit your original post and keep it fresh. Use the rest of the thread to state, in a prudent manner, the changes you've made, if any have been made.
"I added stuff, check page 8 of this thread"... NYO. NONONONO! That's not how this works. YOU edit YOUR post and YOU update it.
Understand why some mechanics are the way they are.
Example:
Let's look at apples. They take a bit of time to gather. They only drop from one type of tree, and even then, they have 1/200 chance in dropping from oak leaves. That alone spells out, "Hey, these apples aren't meant to be farmed like no one's business!" Though the task is easier the more oak trees you plant and chop down.
Okay, so then why do you think Mojang would give us a tree that drops nothing but apples left and right? Did you think the 1/200 drop thing was just a programming bug? In short, your apple tree idea is bad. Think think think.

That's basically the reverse of your other idea, hence it is not necessary to have both.
Adlib criticisms now have a companion with adlib suggestions. Want to tout your endless supply of creativity, but stumped on what to be creative toward? Well lets just add this golden turd into your suggestion title.
Why just pull out the wheel o' blocks, and give her a spin. Oh, landed on redstone.
Make redstone useful!
Yah! Now we have a great suggestion, and with such little work, it's like a Tom Clancy thriller. Add generic organization, plot, and protagonist and give her a shake to come up with something that takes little work.
The big problem here is that it puts an assumption that something isn't useful. Congratulations, you have successfully derailed your thread before you even got out of the message subject. This is actually quite a commendable feat. In related news, stop.
Don't get me wrong. It's awesome. But it seems that with all of the don't do this ones, it seems that whenever you write something that you shouldn't do, you make it like it was written by a 2 year old, while the ones that you should do is written by an experienced member.

That's kind of the point. Whether the negative examples are overly exaggerated or expressed in the calm manner of the wealthy bond villain, the point is still the same. Do not do the negative. The presentation of the negative example does not change that message - it's commutative.
On top of that, the "2-year-oldish" examples seem to get the point across a bit more as they flare out what you shouldn't do a bit better, while possibly being humorous for some readers, hopefully making the guide not as boring as it could be. You know, because... this guide is so long it can make your face hurt.

Herobrine has no plans of being added to the game, according to Notch.

What idea? You mean the "let's suddenly change this working mechanic out of nowhere" thing I mentioned earlier?
Yes, that. I am just saying that it is redundant to include both. Either that, or a combination of both.
Please read these two threads:

The horsepill in this case is "Use your brain before posting a suggestion."
The horsepill in For the Critics is "Either do it right or don't do it at all."
