The caves, ravines and abandoned mineshafts seem to go on FOREVER. The ground in minecraft is like foam. It's way too easy to get iron now. I remember when I played MC before 1.8, and I'd always be really happy to find iron. Then when I needed to craft iron tools and stuff, I was always very conservative with what I crafted because I didn't have iron to waste.
Now I can walk out of a cave with a stack of iron in 10 minutes. I make iron tools, I have a set of iron armor. I have enough iron to last me a very long time (about 12 stacks). And I only started this world about 3 days ago. If I need more inventory space, I don't hesitate to just throw away a couple iron picks or some ingots. That's because I know I can just find more in a few minutes.
It's not that the ores are more common than they used to be, it's just this overabundance of caves that gives the illusion. Coal is also way too easy to get, I waste that too because I have so much of it (I cook single items with coal sometimes, because I have so much that it doesn't matter).
Either reduce caves, reduce iron or make more uses for iron. Minecart tracks don't cut it, because I don't even need to craft minecart tracks. All I have to do is go down into the abandoned mineshaft and take them from there.
This is something I've been wanting for a while. It should definitely be an option in world gen, along with realistic ore gen that creates large, rare veins instead of tiny pockets everywhere.
If you guys had read the first post, you'd see that I'm not saying iron is too common. I'm saying that because there are so many caves, iron is so easy to get because all you have to do is walk through the cave and mine the exposed veins, which are very plentiful.
Iron too easy to get? If iron gets more rare, people can't make many rails anymore, but there are so much creative things you can do with rails. Sorry but I don't agree, iron is just needed for so many things, it shouldn't be more rare.
I said it shouldn't be more rare. I said that the caves make it too easy to find. The amount is the same, but it's exposed because of all the caves everywhere. And also, the abandoned mines are full of rails (which is partly why I have so much iron and nothing to do with it, I can't use the iron for rails because I can just get rails from the abandoned mines).
