Redstone engineers? Don't you hate it when you are trying to fit something in a limited space and end up having to extend the space or add repeaters (and therefore more delay) because if you do it any smaller, the wires will interfere with eachother? You might have to rebuild half the device! Well how about an alternative: glass panes. These are already in the game, so you don't have to add much, just a couple new functions. Glass panes can be placed on the side/between redstone wire, and prevent the wires from connecting there. Therefore, you can compress devices even more, and you won't have to rebuild half the device just because you were a block or two off on your estimate of how big your device is.
Also, maybe minecraft could have a multithreading option specifically for redstone. Therefore, if you have a computer with a multiple cores, you could have redstone lag your game much less. You maybe could even choose what you want the second thread to control; entities, world generation, redstone, etc.
I love it. But how would they be placed? You're placing these on the sides of two blocks, not on the middle of one. Other than that great idea!
Well if you place a staircase on a cieling in minecraft, it appears upside-down. This is basically the same idea, but on the side of the redstone. Redstone also has a bounding box, so maybe if the bounding box were made slightly taller, seeing as it is very short, (about 1/16th a block tall) it would be easier to place on the side.

Survival comes first, luxury and style later.
Well iron conducts electricity, so no.
I would love it if you checked out my "about me" page on my profile and looked at my threads
I'm always happy to see new posters.
