I love that jeb decided to make players able to write in books but i dislike some parts of how it is currently done.
1) Writing should be more editable. It's a pain in the ass when you want to edit something half way down the page but instead of just clicking in the place you want to edit you have to delete everything until you reach it. Basically make it just like notepad or even if that can't be done or at least make it more like signs so that you can choose which line you edit.
2) Bookshelves should hold books... and maybe show the titles or something on the side of the bookshelf or something cool like that.
3) Paper should be able to be written on too.
4) The ability to draw instead of/as well as write (or simply make it so that you can import pictures into book files like people do for maps)
5) The ability to copy out of books as well as paste in books (either just like a pc text editor or if thats not possible make ctrl+c copy the entire page or line you are on) to allow making multiple copies of a book without leaving the game (to type it in a text editor and copy it in)
6) Allow books to be named (and have there name changed) before they are signed and still be editable.
unwritten = book + quill
written = (book name)
unsigned / unfinished
signed = (book name)
by (player name)
7) Allow books to be signed anonymously (would be cool to make uneditable books without your name there)
signed = (book name)
unknown writer / anonymous
8) Allow paper to be added to books (and maybe reduce starting amount of pages) to give them more pages.
i agree completely with #1, #4, #5, but the rest would still be pretty cool, but 1,4,5 are the things jeb needs to work on, if you can make copyable, editable, etc text for multiplayer chat, then why not do it for books and signs?

1) Writing should be more editable. It's a pain in the ass when you want to edit something half way down the page but instead of just clicking in the place you want to edit you have to delete everything until you reach it. Basically make it just like notepad or even if that can't be done or at least make it more like signs so that you can choose which line you edit. Remember that books came out quite literally about one snapshot ago. Let's assume they definitely are not done yet. I'm sure this will be implemented.
2) Bookshelves should hold books... and maybe show the titles or something on the side of the bookshelf or something cool like that. Agreed, except that the bookshelf should be glowing, not have the title. It would make libraries cleaner looking, rather than have a bunch of text GUIs sticking out everywhere. And have it only able to store one book, that way you don't have to search through even more titles when looking for a book you want. Although it doesn't have to be one book per shelf, it might be better.
3) Paper should be able to be written on too. ...Why? Books can be written in. Be happy, write in them. Why have paper? It makes like, 12 kinds of no sense.
4) The ability to draw instead of/as well as write (or simply make it so that you can import pictures into book files like people do for maps) Custom paintings are possibly coming soon, but Mojang said they wanted to work on books first. Be patient.
5) The ability to copy out of books as well as paste in books (either just like a pc text editor or if thats not possible make ctrl+c copy the entire page or line you are on) to allow making multiple copies of a book without leaving the game (to type it in a text editor and copy it in) You can do so already, unless the text is longer than a page, which is slightly understandable and cuts back on spamming CTRL+C CTRL+V books into the game.
6) Allow books to be named (and have there name changed) before they are signed and still be editable.
unwritten = book + quill
written = (book name)
unsigned / unfinished
signed = (book name)
by (player name) Why should they be named before they're signed? As my English teacher said, titles come last. Think of the story before you have the name. Besides, what difference does it make?
7) Allow books to be signed anonymously (would be cool to make uneditable books without your name there)
signed = (book name)
unknown writer / anonymous Peh, could be useful.
8) Allow paper to be added to books (and maybe reduce starting amount of pages) to give them more pages. Uh, no thanks. I, personally, do not want to be reading 100 pages of "THE DUCK WENT QUACK." This is Minecraft, not your personal Kindle. I don't think there's a need to neither write nor read full-length novels in a game like this. 15 pages is enough.
I think it's a bit early to start making suggestions, I'd advise waiting for the official release before we mount a frontal assault on the features and details.
Clarification: I'm very excited and thrilled about the addition of writable books, it was very high on my wish list. But I haven't even really had a chance to bask in their glory as is, I think our energy should be conserved until we're sure that Jeb has implemented them in an official release, because who knows what changes he has planned.
And as for the title before finishing the book thing Neo i didn't mean a permanent title i just meant something you could put so that if you had a chest with 54 books in it you wouldn't need to open every one to find the one you wanted. also if you wanted a book that would permanently be editable (to do list) (home co-ordinates)
Also one more idea that i thought would be really cool. A crafting recipe like this:
Herobrine
by Notch
plus
book and quill
equals
2 x
Herobrine
by Notch
would make it much easier to create multiple copies of the same book for things like libraries which may now become popular as good information could be put on books to sell to players and as long as they were cheap (in terms of in game money) i'm sure i would buy a bunch of books. It would be a pain to have to copy and paste in every page by hand not to mention difficult unless a simple copy page paste page feature was added or an external program used.
Oh and as for the writing on paper i was thinking in terms of just short notes like to do lists or shopping lists or home locations etc. on a maximum of 2 (front and back) pages. Just a possibility but on the low end in terms of priorities

I support this.
