Ever since hunger came out in the 1.8 update during the beta phase, I was slightly disappointed because I hate having to constantly eat food when I just want to gather supplies and build in survival, so my suggestion is to change up Hardcore mode a little bit and add a new game mode called Classic Survival. This will hopefully allow players who want to play survival casually to do so and those who want more of a challenge to do so as well.
Game Modes
Classic Survival
A game mode for the nostalgic players who simply just want the HP bar, just how it was during beta 1.7 or earlier. After eating food, their HP will begin to slowly regenerate and the amount of HP they get back is based on how many hearts the food used to give before 1.8. Golden apples will probably need to be changed since they're much easier to craft now. This game mode would pretty much be like survival during the earlier stages of Minecraft.
Survival
Stays the same as it is now. Has the hunger bar.
Hardcore
Has an added thirst meter, requiring the player to drink water or milk to quench their thirst. If their thirst depletes completely, they will start to lose health. If both hunger and thirst are completely depleted, they will lose health twice as fast. Water will restore 4 points on the thirst meter, milk will restore 3 and any potion will restore 1. Thirst would deplete slightly faster than hunger since realistically, we can only live up to about a week without water, but almost a month without food.
Maybe make two separate survival modes: Standard Survival (Survival w/out hunger & thirst) & MediumCore Survival? (Survival w/ hunger & thirst, and your world doesn't delete when you die like in hardcore.)
We should have a new mode called Crafting Mode, please stop trying to change survival mode. It's already too easy to begin with which completely ruins my whole gameplay. It's "survival" mode for a reason.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
