Hi fellow Minecrafters! I am currently building a day/night sensor using the grass dies at night trick with water and pistons. I just wanted to say that a good alternative would be to make the in-game clock placeable, and then at night, it powers the block that it is placed on, making it very easy to make automatic nighttime lighting, with fewer pistons.
This is a change that would also make clocks a little more usable in the game. I can also see it being used in an underground to know when it is safe to go back to the surface, or when to strike the enemy if pvp is only allowed at night/etc.
Agreed, currently the only method of day/night detection is the creative use of pressure plates and villagers (make a small shelter and place a plate outside at night the villager will go in and release the charge from the pressure plate

Ha! Yeah that's a nifty way to do it as well. I didn't even think of that, (although I'd have to live by a village in survival to get a villager to start it I believe), the way I'm currently doing it is something like this vid from Ethos . I did see someone else make some other designs as well on the forum as well.
I still think having a clock power a block makes it more practical than both of these options And hey then we get more use for the clock!

Turning the clock into a mountable Day/Night sensor would come in handy for a multitude of things...and give us a lovely little wall mount.
