while I know TNT has not been majorly edited since it was made to explode way back when, but I have an idea to make it more realistic.
why not, instead of dropping some of the blocks, couldn't it instead drop SHARDS of the blocks? it would be more realistic.
stone: rock shard
used in crafting arrows in place of flint. does slightly more damage but a shorter range.
iron ore: iron ore shard
smelted to get an iron arrowhead. same as stone but more damaging.
coal ore: coal shard
can be used as furnace fuel for 40 seconds, or 4 smelting operations. this property has been requested before. it can be used to make an arrow like other shards, but does half normal arrow damage and is affected by gravity normally.
redstone: nothing.
redstone drops dust. you can't make shards out of dust. DERP!
gold ore: gold shard
must be smelted. 2.5x damage as normal arrow, half range.
lapis lazuli: lapis sliver
makes an arrow that PIERCES its first target, damaging mobs behind it. it's damage halves after piercing a target and can only pierce one total target. dyes sheep blue on hit, but still damages them.
diamond: glittering sliver
made to make arrows. the light gemstone means it goes 1.5x as far as normal arrows, and does triple damage. this is counterbalanced by the fact that only n00bs blow up diamonds. most would consider it a waste.
note: for all ores that have associated blocks, upon destruction by explosives, they will either drop nothing like normal or drop 5 shards of the finished shard, not the ore.
why is it that everyone says that? it kinda makes sense, I get it, and it would add a drawback to TNT, but then I won't be able to have fun making craters in the earth... :_(
Why would we need a bajillion new items just for strange realism?
I mean, gold wouldn't really form shards anyway (it's soft) and the rest seem like excuses for speshul majickle arrows. Especially when it seems we'd be incapable of making shards without explosives. Is Steve? an action movie protagonist or really just that dumb? YOU decide!
WoW I would have never thought of that.

cobblestone works like stone.
creeper 'splosions apply.
any block unmentioned does not have a shard.
what do YOU think?
